Reflective practice is important to the development of lecturers as professionals as it enables us to learn from our experiences of teaching and make easier student learning.
I believe I have a quite good knowledge and understanding of meeting standards with the care I deliver to our service users and meeting the standards expected within my role as a carer. I also believe I could learn more to enhance my knowledge. If I should need support for my own learning and development within my role as a carer I can ask my nurse in charge or my manager at any point. Having regular supervisions and appraisals help in this effect. I can also refer to service users care plans or ask my manager for training on things I may find difficult.

It’s a process for continual listening and learning, focussing on what is important to service users throughout their lives, it helps with their day to day task and activity’s enables staff to manage time and keeps their family and their friends involved. As an example, I sat down with one of our service users and went through what he’d like to do to help him be more independent through PCP. Once we had talked about his options, this part of his PCP was put in place so that he can regularly go to the shops get to get himself toiletries and his daily newspaper, this also helped him to get to know the shop keepers and create friendships outside of his usual home environment . PCP was created in response to some specific problems with the way in which society responds to people with disabilities.

There are many things that I do that contribute to the overall delivery of the service provider, for example I provide the best possible care I can give to the service users & families of those service users by communicating effectively & being involved in their day to day activities and personal needs I may also write their daily reports in deep detail. As a supervisor, you need to be able to listen not just to the content of what is being said, but also to the way it is being said and the feelings behind that. As a professional supervisor, you can be an important role model of good practice in communication, enabling the member of staff to express their thoughts and to feel that they too are being listened to and understood. The aim of professional supervision is to help the member of staff learn about and develop their own practice in the workplace. As they do this, they will become better able to understand and reflect on their work, analyse their actions and the effects of these, recognise some of the dynamics of relationships and situations, and transfer their learning to new situations and professional contexts. Your job as a supervisor involves helping the student/trainees to think about how they learn and providing opportunities in supervision that will help them extend their learning.
