CODE OF PRACTICE FOR SOCIAL CARE WORKERS 1. Protect the rights and promote the interests of service users and carers; As a social care worker, you must protect the rights and promote the interests of service users and carers. Treating each person as an individual; every person is unique and need to be treated in a holistic manner, has its own likes and dislike, differs on how they want to be treated, for example a service user don’t want to be handled by male carer and some won’t mind a male carer to assist them. Other example of this may pertain to the service users beliefs because some are Christians and some are not it is vital to know the service users beliefs so that they won’t be offended while communicating with them. Following risk assessment policies and procedure to assess whether the behaviour of service users presents a risk of harm or themselves or others; aggressive behaviour of the service users can’t be avoided sometimes but knowing your escape route and being calm makes a big difference if facing such situation. Ensuring that relevant colleagues and agencies are informed about the outcomes and implications of risk assessments.
