Others should agree as well. PA public schools should not be required to wear uniforms. Uniforms cause a lack of freedom of expression. With wearing clothing of our own choosing, comes a way to express ourselves and our personalities “Since clothing is considered an expression of identity or religious belief, mandating school uniforms is considered a violation of students' right to free expression”. (“Point: The High Cost of School Uniforms”).
They soon filed a suit in a New York State court to banned the prayer, they kept on insisting that the use of this prayer in the public schools was contrary to their own and their children's beliefs, religions, or religious practices. The separation of church and state says that government should stay out of the business of enforcing any religious activities no matter what the case is. The Board of education's prayer is quite simple and it violates the 1st Amendment and because of this should be banned
NCLB set forth a certain criteria to be met, but allowed the states to determine how they would accomplish it. Therefore, each state handles assessment and accountability differently. This makes it hard to show success or failure of the programs. Supporters and critics alike can cite research that supports their opinion. My opinion of NCLB is it is flawed, developmentally inappropriate, ill funded, ←and→ leaving more students, teachers, ←and→ schools behind than ever before because The tests have turned into the objective of classroom instruction rather than the measure of teaching ←and→ learning.
According to material in item A, sociologists such as Becker claim that teachers label different groups of pupils and treat them unequally. Labelling in education means attaching a meaning to a student i.e. calling them hard working or mischievious. Researchers want to know whether labelling actually happens and how much it affects people's self-esteem and achievement. There are various types of experiments that are used to research this, however comparitive experiments should not be used as we are only studying a group of people in education, not the whole population.
Moore heard a talk show person talk about how people do not even know basic literature and when Moore calls up the talk show person the person did not even know what the books were. This shows how people talk about how bad teachers are but the teachers are not the problem. He talks about how humans live in a democracy when they live in America, but students learn in a totalitarian government when they are in schools. This shows how schools cannot do anything to protect themselves due to the pressure that the government is putting on them. Moore also describes a situation where a school that is sponsoring Coco-Cola has a picture and the kids can only wear Coca-Cola apparel and one kid wears another T-Shit to school.
Yet for as long as we can remember, there have been attempts to silence those willing to express their mind in any fashion. Of all the sources of controversy, books would have to be the most long-running and controversial topic throughout history, and even in this day and age. Books such as Of Mice and Men, The Catcher in the Rye, and Go Ask Alice are just some of the books on the long list of books that have been banned or are banned in schools across America. Go Ask Alice is a book that was questioned due to the being sexually explicit, offensive language, and drug use. This book was taught in a Rhode Island school were it was taken from
But when a school system puts uniforms into place, and then makes you wear a certain color shirt because of you grades, that's just asking for more bullying and fights. I'm really trying to understand their thinking process on this issue. Maybe they figured, if you're in the lower grade color, you will start trying harder. It's a concept that I believe is completely wrong, but it's the only reason I could think of on why they would do this. I really don't believe that I could ever grow to like this concept at all.
"Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence upon Thee, and beg Thy blessings upon us, our teachers, and our country." In an opinion delivered by Justice Hugo Black, the Court ruled that government-written prayers were not to be recited in public schools and were an unconstitutional violation of the Establishment Clause. This was decided in a vote of 6-1. THIRD- THE IMPORTANCE OF THE COURT’S DECSION ON US SOCIETY: The decision prevents public school teachers from leading their students in any religious activity. It has impacted the U.S. today because schools can't force students to participate in any religious activities.
But no one has the right to use a government-run, taxpayer-supported institution, such as the public school system, as a vehicle for evangelism. Put simply, the public schools are no place for proselytizing young people. Creationism – a fundamentalist doctrine based on biblical literalism that has no serious support in the scientific community – doesn't belong in biology classes. As a public school student myself, I understand the importance of this distinction. I respect the beliefs of my peers, teachers and administrators.
But this injures students educationally as well. While the rest of the world references Vietnam in many of today’s situations or debates on whether Iraq is the next Vietnam and other issues, high school students are left out of the loop because their high school textbooks and teachers refuse to teach them what they should learn, what they ought to learn. High school students are hurt the most because of this. While textbook authors and editors are not likely to break away from the template soon, they should at least find a way around the system to provide pictures and information that would give students sufficient knowledge on the topic of Vietnam. That way students would be able to keep up with issues from which parallels to Vietnam are drawn or participate in such
