Mrs. Bonnie Ramsey Hailey Whittington Dolby Elementary School EDUC 329 WH Fifth Grade Science September 7, 2012 10:15 – 10:45 a.m. 30 minutes For today’s class, Mrs. Ramsey reviewed the past week’s science lesson with her students. She started out by opening a review flip chart on the promethean board. I helped out by controlling the computer so that she could sit with her students. Next, she explained to the students that their class period today would consist of a review so that they can prepare for their upcoming test. She then went through the flip chart with her students, constantly calling on volunteers to help her answer questions. She involved the kids a lot, which I loved and the kids were excited about the class, which was even better. During the class period, many topics were covered, but the main focus was on the definition and characteristics of herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores. Mrs. Ramsey did an excellent job at making the review interesting. Because of this, I feel that her students learned a lot and will be prepared for their test. I learned a lot in this science class. I always knew that reviews were helpful to students, especially young ones, but today I learned about the fashion in which a review is best delivered. I was able to see students excelling and students struggling. By the end of the class, many students were better able to understand the lesson and probably improved from a possible “D” on the upcoming test to a “B” or even “A.” I learned that when you involved technology and visuals in your lessons and reviews, so much can be accomplished. I think that had the review been delivered differently, such as pen and paper, the students would have been a lot less focused and would have learned a lot less.
