Rock & Roll history Where did this type of music come from? The rhythm of rock and rock is from Africa. The immediate origins of rock and roll lie in the late 1940s and early 1950s through a mixing together of various popular musical genres of the time. These included gospel, folk music, and the blues - particularly the electric forms being developed in Memphis, Chicago, New Orleans, Texas, California, and elsewhere - piano-based boogie woogie, and jump blues, which were collectively becoming known as rhythm and blues. Also in the melting pot creating a new musical form were country and western music (including Western swing and influences from traditional Appalachian folk music), jazz, and gospel music.
I had a hard time deciding on a song to pick for this assignment. When I picked Bill Frisell I started to listen to several of his pieces that e has worked on and that made my choice even harder. All of his music is great. I have truly enjoyed listening to him and have even downloaded a few songs to my ipod so I can listen again later. I did finally narrow the search down to two songs; both are cover songs, “Have a Little Faith”, and “Hallelujah”.
It began as the backing for doo-wop and was then picked up by early rock-and-roll groups which brought the progression to center-stage. (AllMusic) Rock music featuring the 50’s Progression was the popular music up through the 1990’s, and while rock has faded in the past 10 years, the chord progression has maintained its utility. Many frustrated musicians wonder how one chord progression can remain dominant through six decades. According to music psychology experts, the progression is simple and easy for the brain to process. (Reif) For example, the C major 50’s Progression consists of C major, A minor, F major, and G major.
Latin music Latin music imported from Cuba (chachachá, mambo, rumba) and Mexico (ranchera and mariachi) had brief periods of popularity during the 50s. The earliest popular Latin music in the United States came with rumba in the early 1930s, and was followed by calypso in the mid-40s, mambo in the late 40s and early 50s, chachachá and charanga in the mid-50s, bolero in the late 50s and finally boogaloo in the mid-60s, while Latin music mixed with jazz during the same period, resulting in Latin jazz and the bossa nova fusion cool jazz. The first Mexican-Texan pop star was Lydia Mendoza, who began recording in 1934. It was not until the 40s, however, that musica norteña became popularized by female duets like Carmen y Laura and Las Hermanas Mendoza, who had a string of regional hits. The following decade saw the rise of Chelo Silva, known as the "Queen of the (Mexican) Bolero", who sang romantic pop songs.
The Beatles changed the face of music. Their lyrics spoke about love and peace during the unsettling 1960s, their recording technique was very innovative, and their diverse music style appealed to all generations. The Beatles’ lyrics gave America hope in the early 1960s when many Americans were grieving the loss of their President, John F. Kennedy, and in the late 1960s during the Vietnam War. Even before these events, the Beatles were inspiring people with songs like She Loves You. She Loves You contains the words, She loves you And you know you should be glad.
The history of bachata Bachata is popular guitar music from the Dominican Republic. Now overwhelmingly successful among Latinos in the United States, bachata took shape over a period of about forty years in the bars and brothels of Santo Domingo, not gaining acceptance in its native land until about ten years ago. Young groups like Aventura have a similar relationship to original bachata as rock and rollers do to the blues, which has languished in the shadow of its more commercially viable descendant. In fact, the parallel between bachata and the blues is marked. Although bachata developed out of, and bachateros play, a variety of different rhythms, notably including merengue, the music which is specifically called bachata is a variant of the bolero.
The sixties were when many artists started experimenting with different sound techniques such as distortion and playback. Among The Beatles and The Who, Jimi Hendrix was one of the pioneers in this new world of music. He was left handed but played a right handed guitar "upside down" which let him experiment more with his playing methods. The Sixties was also a great time for dance innovation with many dance fads and crazes coming into style. America and other countries were coming out of the Jive period and Rock-n-Roll was ushering in new and exciting dance moves which started the era of the Twist.

Also it had frets, frets are the lines on the guitar that make the different notes. It was believed to be invented in Spain. Early music sheets were written in tablature, similar to today. Later, in the eighteenth century the five-course guitar evolved in to the most popular model, the six-string guitar.
