English musician and Grammy Award winner, Sting, remarked “I think the Beatles are the reason I’m a musician”. The Beatles were formed in 1960, and amazingly in 2011, their music is still being heard by the millions of people who attend the Cirque du Soleil show, Love, play the music/video game, Rock Band, and are still buying their CDs and downloading songs from i-Tunes. The Beatles changed the face of music. Their lyrics spoke about love and peace during the unsettling 1960s, their recording technique was very innovative, and their diverse music style appealed to all generations. The Beatles’ lyrics gave America hope in the early 1960s when many Americans were grieving the loss of their President, John F. Kennedy, and in the late 1960s during the Vietnam War. Even before these events, the Beatles were inspiring people with songs like She Loves You. She Loves You contains the words, She loves you And you know you should be glad. Ooh! She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah. Then in December, 1963, I Want to Hold Your Hand, and I Saw Her Standing There were both released. These songs not only spoke of the strong emotions of love, and gave people hope, but made its listeners want to dance. In July 1967, the iconic song, All You Need Is Love was released. The song was created specifically for Our World which was the first live, international, satellite television production, and was viewed by an estimated 400 million people. The broadcast took place at the height of the Vietnam War, and the Beatles wanted to convey a message expressing love and hope.
