I never had a united family. My father moved out of my house when I was 3, at the same time my grandmother died. As a result, it left my mother depressed in a house with two children. She depended on my father for child support, who was very inconsistent with his payments because they never officially got divorced. This lead to my mother’s anxiety erupting everyday, worrying if she will have the money to support us through the week.
Her mother left when she was when she was 7 years old and although she has since found out more about the situation, her father never spoke about it at the time. She is currently in a relationship but this also has its up and downs, which she blames on herself. That divorce resulted in her losing contact with her father right until 6 months before he died. Additionally, two months after her son Jacob died from a car accident in which he had a head on collision with a drunk driver. Another thing that makes up Marilyn’s grief history is the fact that her son and husband are never really around.
Nancy Cruzan's battle began on January 11th, 1983 when she was ejected from her car in a terrible accident. That night, the struggle had just began for Nancy's family. The battle that actually lasted a total of seven years, doesn't equate to the lifelong suffering the Cruzan family must live with the rest of their lives – without Nancy. When anyone almost loses a loved one they are put in a compromising position, we become vulnerable and are grief-stricken in every sense. Nancy's family was compromised the first night that Nancy was brought into the emergency room, they were afraid and rushed to make decisions that they weren't ready to make.
This conflict is person vs. herself because those girls are suffering without their mother. When the days were going on, there day came home and told them something that made them freak out. There dad told them that there aunty is coming from India to take care of them. They were freaked out because they don’t want no one to take over there mom place. There mom and aunty never get along with each other.
The decision she made to leave her mother and go to Jalil was one decision that really harmed the course of her life. Nana ended up killing herself because she was so mad at Mariam and all of this leaded to her being given away to be married. If Mariam had made the decision to stay with her mother, she would not have been thrust into a whole new life with Rasheed, her new husband. From here forward her fate was set in stone. She had to stay inside with Rasheed and was physically and mentally beaten by him.
The reason for this was she did not have a lot of money and did not feel her husband was ready to be a father to the baby boy she gave birth to. The character Rip Porter played by Barry Pepper experienced distress and chronic stress because, he just was released from being incarcerated from alcoholism which caused him to physically hurt his wife.
