What makes up the grief history for Marilyn? Does any of it threaten to complicate her current grief work? Grief is an accepted reaction when someone or something you love is taken away from you. It’s the emotive pain you feel when something or someone you love is taken away. The more momentous the loss, the more penetrating the pain will be. There is no right way of coping with death. The way a person grieves rest on the persona of that person and the relationship with the person who they lost. How a person copes with grief is affected by their experience, the person’s cultural and religious background, coping skills, mental history, support systems, and the person’s social and financial status. There are quite a few situations that apply to Marilyn’s grief. The initial stage of Marilyn’s grief started with the divorce of her parents at the age of 14. That divorce resulted in her losing contact with her father right until 6 months before he died. Additionally, two months after her son Jacob died from a car accident in which he had a head on collision with a drunk driver. Another thing that makes up Marilyn’s grief history is the fact that her son and husband are never really around. I believe that the fact that her family is not spending enough time with her or the fact that she barely ever sees them will threaten to complicate her grief work. Another thing that I think can threaten to complicate her current grief work is the time between the two lost. I don’t believe that Marilyn had enough time to cope with the death of her father properly before her son passed away. Matzo noted that, “the time for grief resolution has varied from peaks at 4 months to as long as 3 years (Matzo & Sherman, 2010, p 215). How can you explain the actions of John?
