Abstract
Miss K has suffered from anxiety and panic attacks for as long as she can remember. These conditions have become more debilitating as time has gone on and she is fed up with them controlling her life. The restrictions that they bring have recently been emphasized, as her and her boyfriend were due to book a holiday, with two others couples that they are friends with, but she back out of at the last minute. Also, her younger cousin has just got into university and will be moving away in September.
Introduction
Miss K is 23 and has worked in an office for a small family run business for the last 3 years. The office is just 10 minutes work from the family home, where she lives with her father. She has two older sisters, one of which lives and works in the city, and the other lives with her partner and son in a nearby town. Her mother left when she was when she was 7 years old and although she has since found out more about the situation, her father never spoke about it at the time. She is currently in a relationship but this also has its up and downs, which she blames on herself.
Initial consultation
Miss K is ready to move forward with her life she often feels that she has no control over it. She would like to understand and address the issues that are holding her back in her relationship and also at work and take control. Due to her anxiety and panic attacks she recognises that she is placing more and more restrictions on her life. She describes her situation as “I am becoming more and more a spectator of others peoples life rather than going out and living my own and this makes me very sad”.
