After getting your registered nurse diploma you will be able to work. Students who earn a diploma in nursing are qualified to sit for the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX-RN) and apply for licensure as a registered nurse. The NCLEX-RN exam is designed to test the knowledge, skills , and abilities essential to the safe and effective practice of nursing at entry level. Most nurses can generally find entry-level positions in a hospital or inpatient facilities.
The ADN degree can be earned from an accredited community college with approximately one year of prequisite courses and two years of nursing studies. The ADN program was initially created following World War II in order to help alleviate the nursing shortage. The ADN nurse was trained to have strong technical skills, provide patient care, but ultimately to perform under the supervision of a professional nurse. The ADN programs are designed to teach nurses practical bedside care. Students are taught basic communication skills to coordinate with other healthcare team members.
My Career Pathway In the future I would like to become a Nurse Practitioner caring for adult patients who are suffering from acute and long-term illnesses and diseases. I will support recovery from illness or operation by using care plans, carrying out care procedures and assessments and refural to appropriate external department i.e Asthma Nurses within Surgeon/ Physian instruction by focusing on the needs of the patient rather than the illness or condition. Nurses usaully work within a multidisciplinary team but are the main point of contract for patients, often providing the most continuity of care. Named nurses work mainly in hospitals and the community, attached to a health centre or general practice and in residential homes, specialist units, schools, hospices. In my chosen career to be a Nurse Practitioner, there are opportunities that I can progress in.
Also when I was in the hospital I saw what the nurses did and I thought it was pretty interesting. After all this I decided this was something I knew I wanted to do. Nurses have many daily activities that they must follow in order to perform their duties. The activities or roles the registered nurse may change depending on the day or the patient. All nurses have a scope of practice they must follow but depending on the patient will tell them what procedures to perform.
NMC establish set of standards of education and training, so that nurses deliver high quality healthcare. To be registered nurse you must undertake professional training. This means that training can be taken in university settings. To complete post-graduate degree you must finish over 3 years of learning, which consist half of theory, and half of practical placement. After registration in NMC we must complete a notification to practice every 3 years to remain on the register.

If you're interested in the nursing field but don't want to go through two or four years of schooling then becoming a licensed practical nurse could be your calling. According to the bureau of labor statistics a licensed practical nurse takes a course that is usually a year in length and then starts practicing in a work environment. If you would enjoy getting a college experience and have no rush being thrown into a work environment then you might want to look into registered nursing.

Specialized programs give nurse interns maximum exposure to the field that interests them the most. Specialized education programs for nurses require extensive human and facility resources to be successful (Hall, 2006). This specialty internship program will also assist with retention of nursing staff.
I am currently a Registered Nurse in the telemetry unit where most of my patients range from middle age to the elderly with heart-related conditions. My duties and responsibilities includes assessments of patients, creating necessary nursing diagnosis, care planning, nursing intervention within my scope of practice, evaluation of the provided treatments, and notifying the doctor when necessary. In addition, I also provide continuing education to patients upon admission, during hospitalization, discharge, preventive measures, treatments, self medication, and home care. As a patient advocate, I will continue to provide compassionate and quality nursing care to my patients. My long-term goals are to obtain a Master’s degree in Nursing in the next five years and to become a practitioner.
