In my nursing class, I learned that doctors cure the sickness and nurses cure the patient. This means that the nurse attends to the physical, mental, and psychosocial aspects in the care of patients. Some days can be demanding on the mind and body, but you can still go home and be grateful of what you have done for someone else. I believe that the core of nursing is love and passion for others. Without this love and passion, why is one in nursing.
The woman must have thought I was going to leave her as she grabbed my arm and looked very worried. I reassured her that I was going to stay, however this was very difficult due to the language barrier, she appeared to calm down so I think she understood. I sat with her whilst she was in the bath trying to give her support and reassurance as she was clearly anxious and struggling with the pain. The woman seemed to appreciate my presence and visibly appeared to cope better with the pain she was experiencing. The woman’s husband came back and I explained that it was the end of my shift
According to Shields and Werder (2002) , ‘adequate preparation of the anaesthetic equipment, resources and patient is essential to the provision of safe anaesthetic care.’ When the whole team was ready the patient to be brought down to the anaesthetic room. We sent for her and when she arrived we introduced ourselves and we asked her a few questions such as she is allergic to anything, is she have any internal metal work and the last time they ate and or drink. All her answers didn't raise any concerns. We went through her consent form with her, if this case involved a child we would have their parents there and if it
The patient acknowledged that her Dr was reassuring in manner and methodically explained the outcome of each of her previous assessments. The most concerning result was that her lung function had reduced from 50% to 34%, causing her doctor to refer her immediately for another course of cyclophosphamide infusions. Overall she was satisfied with the appointment. She experienced short waiting times, her Dr showed reassurance and he justified reasons for her treatment plan in a clear and knowledgeable communication. She felt his friendly yet professional approach
I would ask how they’re doing, why are they here or if they want me to do their morning care a certain way. I had this one patient while I was cleaning their back using a warm wash cloth, the patient let go a big sigh and says how good it feels to get their back rubbed a certain way. I would continue on with the rest of the morning care while talking to them to find out more about them. After I was done, the patient was quite appreciative for what I did for her and was asking if I was going to be her
As I read the entries from my reflective journal, I could see how my focus shifted from assisting patient with his basic needs at the beginning of the nursing school to more comprehensive nursing care today. My years of experience in education and later in quality control, influenced values that have translated well into the nursing field. First and foremost are work and client safety. The quality of service, attention to detail, and

Reflective Account of supervised management placement. Introduction. The student nurse hopes with this assignment to allow the reader an insight into my experience during my management placement within a busy rehabilitation ward in Wishaw General. With the guidance and supervision of my mentor I participated in all areas of running a busy rehab ward. The student nurse will reflect on health promotion issues as this stood out to me in several areas, The student nurse discovered that although we can nurse a patient back to health it is so important to make the patient aware of how necessary it is for them to participate in their care by adhering to what is recommended to them by various members of the Multidisciplinary Team and the devastating consequences that the patient can encounter if advice is ignored.
Florence Nightingale was a very nurturing nurse. When she was younger, she claimed she got a call from God asking if she would do well for him alone and not for the fame, she obliged to the commitment (Aller). Her obliging shows how she didn’t want to become world-renowned. Nightingale just wanted to be a nurse for the health of others. While serving the Crimean War, she had beds made for sick soldiers who had to rest on the floor (Aller).
Reflective I am a Senior Health Care Assistant and I work at a residential home for service users who have dementia and Alzheimer’s. On the 24.03.2012 I came on my shift which started at 7a.m, before starting my shift I made sure my uniform was clean and it had been laundered the night before, I do this to avoid cross contamination and comply with Health and Safety Regulations. I signed in the staff signing in book with the date and time I arrived and made sure my writing was legible, this not only helps my Manager monitor the building but it is also in case of fire and so the emergency services know if any persons are left in the building should the building have to be evacuated. This is also to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act. I entered the building and used the alcohol hand gel and rubbed into my hands thoroughly and this again is to prevent cross infection and stops staff and visitors bringing in germs and infections into the home which can cause service users to be ill and also staff.
