The reason why we bed bath clients is to promote personal hygiene and to give them a sense of well-being it also maintain intact skin i.e. prevention of pressure sours. Bed bathing allows the caregivers to monitor changes in the client’s skin condition. It was my first day on practice placement and I assisted a care assistance in giving a patient a bed bath. The patient had recently had a stroke, due to that the patients left arm was paralysed and her mobility was greatly reduced, and also caused her severe pain. We first explained to her what we were going to do and asked for her consent, which was given verbally, the patient was unable to communicate do to the stroke however when we asked for her consent she nodded her head.
If she was educated about the importance of prenatal testing Nahla might have been normal today. Sadly, many minority women avoid the distress and discomfot of the medical industry and refuse prenatal care entirely. The skepticism results from doctors failing to effectively communicate the reasons behind such testing and failing to provide the patients with information regarding what the prenatal test is looking for and what such results mean. Because there is a lack of clear communication, some mothers are uncomfortable about recieiving such
Midwives are personally responsible for the health of both mother and baby and only refer to obstetricians if there are medical complications. They work in multidisciplinary teams in both hospital, and increasingly, in community health care settings. Midwives do a multitude of duties, all the while following to hospital policy and maintaining an awareness of issues such as health and safety, examples of these duties are; diagnosing, monitoring and examining women during pregnancy, developing, assessing and evaluating individual programmes of care, providing full antenatal care, including screening tests in hospital, in the community and at home. Midwives identify high risk pregnancies and make referrals to doctors and other
Using a laminated card and by displaying the Whooley questions discreetly I have implemented them at each clinic I have undertaken since. It is essential that the HV is both confident and competent in the delivery of the questions and committed to exploring any concerning outcomes fully. It has been suggested that many new mothers will not disclose feelings of low mood due to the perceptions a health professional may have if she does. Edhborg (2005) suggested women who are depressed after giving birth often struggle with tremendous guilt over their depression and believe that it means they are a bad mother, this inhibits their likelihood to disclose feelings of low mood to a practitioner. I have seen mothers react after presentation of the Whooley questions, with a sheepish “No” on occasion.
The nursing staff reported that her chest infection had resolved and she was now more alert. They did get her out of bed but with lot of difficulty, as she would not follow any instructions or commands. The first time I saw her I had the rehab assistant with me. We were going to assess her ability to walk. I together with the rehab assistant tried to get her to walk, but we were not able to convince her to even stand from sitting in the chair.
Although Sandra was not conscious and could not make choices herself, the staff tried contacting her next of kin, when they were unreachable they took matters into their own hands to help Sandra. It was not noted in the case study what happened after medical attention was given to Sandra, but it was in good faith that the doctor choose to give Sandra medical attention right away due to the severity of her wounds. Dignity often rises from one person to the next and in this case I feel all three ethical principles were
Change, though a part of our daily routine in nursing was difficult. My history with this organization was that often nurses found that practices that were adequate during their own experience as a patient and therefore should not be changed or improved on. More well seasoned nurses had told me during my initial fact finding phase that they prefer specializing in either mothers or newborns, but not both. All my nurses had certification in neonatal resuscitation and basic life support which was the basic structure of being competency in couplet care. After assuring the support of my clinical coordinator and my senior leader, I spoke at a staff meeting about the benefits of couplet care.

Personally, what I did within the lab became a custom and of such it is now a part of my everyday practice, especially the hand washing. The nursing process to me means an outline put in place to ensure that patient receives the best possible treatment, based on their beliefs and practice or cultural background. In the nursing process, there are five steps in which the nurses follow. It provides the ability to conduct a good nursing strategy to ensure that the patient outcome is as effective as possible. It also helps you to know that if a
I observed my RN carefully and how she uses the machine. It’s stated that “Despite this, dignity is seldom defined and there are few guidelines that nurses may use in their practice to safeguard individual patients’ dignity.” (Ballie, L. 2007). And since this was my first time, I felt quite uncomfortable in assisting the task. I felt like a must push myself in doing the allocated tasks since it was my first time watching a patient being showered. I knew that if I was to become an RN one day, I must overcome this uncomfortably, and view it as a natural thing.
