Reasons for Becoming A Teacher MTE/501 August 2, 2014 Reasons for Becoming a Teacher There are many reasons why I want to become a teacher. I aspire to have a profound affect on the lives of others. I want to share knowledge with children and help them grow and strive to be better people. I love sharing something new with a student and seeing the light in their eyes when they come to an understanding of what you are teaching them. It is an amazing achievement. Education has evolved greatly during my lifetime and because of this there are many reasons why I would like to become a teacher, myself, and help make my own contributions to the field of education. I want to become a teacher for many reasons. I sincerely enjoy teaching. Teaching is a great profession, if you want to affect the lives of other people in a positive way. It is enlightening to be able to help someone else succeed or to overcome adversities in learning. Teaching is also a great profession because it is challenging. I have always felt the need to be challenged in whatever task that I am doing. I am dedicated, organized, determined, and resourceful and these are just a few traits that I think will help make me a successful teacher. There has been a huge evolution in education in the thirty years. We have seen government take an active role in the improvement of education with programs such as “No child left behind” and the “Elementary and Secondary Education Act.” These programs have focused on keeping track of data such as test scores specifically studying scores among different ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. The primary focus of these initiatives has been to bridge the achievement gap among students who struggle because of learning disabilities or economic hardships.
