“Slavery in Cuba on the whole was a rural phenomenon. Nevertheless, the average sugar mill in the Havana area relied on twenty to thirty slaves.” (Garcia). French, English, and Dutch sea marauders recognized its strategic advantage early when they attacked the city during the 16th century. It wasn’t until 1762 that Havana was actually captured by British
The ships could yet return to England. The Negro slave trade became one of the most important business enterprises of the seventeenth century. The monopoly of the French slave trade was at the first assigned to the French West India Company in 1664, but yet they transferred in 1673, to the Senegal Company. The Monopoly of the Dutch Slave trade was given to the Dutch West India Company, incorporated in 1621. In the early as the 15 century, England passed from raising sheep and producing wool, an agricultural activity, to manufacturing cloth.
The Africans that were sold were to work on plantations . The third and final part of the triangular trade was the return voyage from " The Americans to Europe ". Slave ships returned to Europe which carried fish, lumber, and other goods from New England to the West Indies. In the West Indies they picked up sugar and molasses which is a dark brown syrup product made from sugar cane. This was used to make rum.
It was on December 16, 1773, when American patriots disguised as Mohawk Indians threw 342 chests of tea belonging to the British East India Company from ships into Boston Harbor. Most people have heard about the Boston Tea Party but not everyone understands the importance of it, and why the Tea Party is still remembered today. The events leading to the Boston Tea Party began already ten years before (1763), when the English won the French-and-Indian War. The king of Britain passed taxes on the colonies to make up for the loss of money because of the war. The British-American colonists named the acts after Charles Townshend, who sponsored them.
The attempt to resolve these issues by the North Ministry resulted in a revolution. (The American Revolution: Writings from the War of Independence (2001), Library of America, 880pp) During the 17th century, the Europeans acquired a taste for tea which rival companies were created to import the tea from China. The Parliament in England, gave the East India Company the control of the importation of the tea in 1968. The Tea became very popular in the British colonies which caused the Parliament to remove foreign competition by passing a Tea Act in 1721 which required that colonies to import their tea from Great Britain and nowhere else. By law, the East India Company did not export the tea to the colonies.

Finally, I will be explaining why I chose to research this beverage. Rum, like many other alcoholic spirits is a distilled beverage originating in the East Indies as early as the 1400s. It is believed that sugar cane, the main ingredient in producing alcohol was very plentiful and available in Indonesia and China, and was sold to traders in the Middle East and North Africa, where it gained much attention to European traders in the 11th century. Sugar cane continued to move west as Portuguese and Spanish traders moved into the Canary and Azore Islands. During the voyages of Christopher Columbus in the late 1400s sugar cane was picked and replanted into Hispaniola, which is now known as Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
“Jamaica was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1494 and the Spanish settled in Jamaica by the sixteenth century” (Kurian). The Spanish brought African slaves to settle in Jamaica. The Spanish used these slaves to work on the fields and develop the land. Later on, the Spanish were expelled from Jamaica by the British Empire in 1670. “Jamaica became popular in producing tobacco, cocoa and sugar for the British” (Mason).
The history of Puerto Rico began with the settlement of the archipelago of Puerto Rico by the Ortoiroid people between 3000 and 2000 BC. Other tribes, such as the Saladoid and Arawak Indians, populated the island between 430 BC and 1000 AD. At the time of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the New World in 1492, the dominant indigenous culture was that of the Taínos. The Taíno peoples numbers went dangerously low during the latter half of the 16th century because of exploitation by Spanish settlers, the war they waged on the Taíno, and diseases introduced by the invaders. Located in the northeastern Caribbean, Puerto Rico formed a key part of the Spanish Empire from the early years of the exploration, conquest and colonization of the New World.
Also, the eye catching picture of the lemon peel in the shape of a bottle in the center of the page is exemplifying the lemon flavor, and resembles freshness the vodka has to offer.
