Question 1: Take a look at the material on sensation seeking on page 286 (Ch. 11). Do you consider yourself a sensation seeker? Why or why not? What are the advantages and disadvantages of your level of sensation seeking? I would not consider myself a sensation seeker. I don’t tend to be interested in actives that would be considered thrill seeking. I find myself normally happy with the mundane actions of my normal life. I’d rather spend some time doing repetitive actions with my video games then be out doing something crazy. The advantages are my life is a lot cheaper (money wise), and somewhat safer than a thrill seeker. I don’t require major changes in my life to keep myself entertained. The down side would be that I am not as social as others at times, and I don’t get to experience as many interesting things in my life. Question 2: How would you rate your own achievement motivation? Why? In what ways is this an advantage to you? In what ways is it a disadvantage? I would rate my Achievement Motivation as fairly low. I’ve never had much interest in competition or been very competitive in nature. I would much rather help someone, or work together as a team to complete a task then to compete with someone else. This is not to say I’ve never been involved in competitions, as a football player in school, as well as being involved in multiple game competitions. They are just not what I value. This is an advantage to me because I am always open to working with others. This is extremely helpful in the workplace, as team work is highly valued in almost all lines of work. This could be viewed as a disadvantage as I’m not competitive by nature, and normally do not strive to outdo or out work others, which is also valued in the work place.
