Should the drafting system be reinstated? This is a question that everyone can either agree or disagree. I will provide you my view on the subject and the reasons why I believe that the draft process should be reinstated. I also believe in actually mandatory service into the military, or that the individuals that are not picked do some type of civil service. The pros and cons; also how to make the process better for our country with just a few tweaks compared to the old process. Approximately forty years have passed since the United States used the drafting system. This draft system was used through World War I and II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. President Nixon abolished the drafting system in 1973, so our military then switched to the so called “volunteer” force.…show more content…
So many countries are lined up against our great nation just to name a few are Iran, North Korea, Cuba. Not to mention other forces such as: the Islamic and the Taliban’s. Other countries that I would not trust are: Russia this country which has one of the largest stocks of mass weapons of destruction nor would I trust China. Benefits of the draft would be the social benefits that it provides. When drafted, you will be able to meet people from all social economic statuses. It would not matter if you are an attorney, a waitress, a factory worker, or even a homeless person. A sense of great influences and patriotism is given when you do not have a choice. By having a choice today most of our youth have no respect for our veterans or patriotism for this great nation. The draft will lessen the effect of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) on our troops. Prolonged exposure to combat has a greater risk of our soldiers having PTSD. Our soldiers today do not only serve one deployment, they actually serve four and five deployments to the Middle
