Assessment Activity # 4 The best way to manage and monitor performance is to make plans and set goals. Goals need to be supported by plans so it is easier to keep track on achievements, they also help them members follow through and achieve their targets and goals to self-manage their performance. Managers need to clearly identify and communicate the work standard expected. They need to ensure that all team members know what customer service standards should be adhered to and what it means to exceed customer expectations. * Conduct regular market research and performance reviews * Ensure each team member has individual job criteria so they know what their goals are and what is expected of them.
It is very important to ensure that all staff members have the necessary skills and have undertaken suitable developmental activities to complete the work they are given. As a manager it is important to look over and carefully calculate the time and cost on a regular basis to make sure it’s cost effective so the organization isn’t losing money. Having regular consultations (meetings, brainstorming sessions, project groups etc.) are also highly expected from a manager as it provides prompt and constructive feedback to the employee. Which will help to suggest improvements that will increase resource efficiency and effectiveness; as employees use resources everyday to get there job done and will know what works and what doesn’t.
While planning you have to obtain as many details about the piece of work you are doing to enable you to produce your work as efficiently as possible. You can write your plans down on a to-do list - Writing down everything has two purposes. Firstly, you are planning your job and the tools you need. Secondly, you are making a written account of your job for others to see. In this way, if you are asked what you have done at any time, you can show it to them and be accountable for your own work.
It is important that staff work as a team and give support to one another. Teams take time to work well and it’s success will depend on how well the team is managed, ground rules should be established that will ensure people can work together in most situations e.g. * Recognise that every team member, regardless of their role or status, has an essential contribution to make. * Always ask for advice and clarify anything you are not sure about. * Find out the ways decisions are reached and the team members that should be included.
Project manager should be able to manage the team effectively. If there is any conflict in between team members, he should try to resolve it so that it may not affect the project. Project managers must be able to plan, initiate, monitor, execute and close the project. Project managers must have the efficient risk management skills as all projects are associated with a risk. In addition to the skills described above,
1. Explain the purpose of agreeing objectives and deadlines when researching information. [2.1] If possible, refer to specific examples from research tasks you have worked on to support your answer. It is important that objectives and deadlines are agreed on so that the researcher has a clear understanding of what they are researching on and both the researcher and their manager both know what the expectations are. It is important the researcher also knows when the information is needed so as to ensure that it is submitted in time.
The quality and frequency of verbal and written communication should be frequent and complete. Things that should be included are to explain what the change will look like, why the change is necessary, and what will happen if no change occurs. Also give a timeline for the change, explain the support available, and how the change fits into the mission and vision of the organization (Boonstra & Broekhuis, 2010). Education or training is also identified as a factor that will hamper the change process. Included in the training needs should be role-based, focused education that prepares the employee to perform her jobs daily.
How do you think managers can ensure that their performance behavior meets the requirements of the organization for which they work? It is important for a manager to have experience with and an understanding of the processes and procedures carried out by their team/department. Managers should be familiar with company schedules and deadlines, communicate these deadlines to their team and plan accordingly. They should also have a clear understanding of the company’s goals and objectives. A manger should report on and audit their team/departments overall productivity and outputs to ensure that time and recourses are being spent wisely.
