Hewlett-Packard | Physical Security Simulation | Magnolia Utility Citizens’ Cooperative | | Kara Davis | 2/10/2013 | | The physical security survey was performed at the South Street Offices and the Electric Way Branch of the Magnolia Utility Citizens’ Cooperative. We were allowed to speak to several employees as well as some management level employees. The employees and managers seemed helpful but wary of providing too much information. They seemed hesitant in some areas to make changes. The cash handling personnel at the Electric Way Branch area had good security and were helpful and well trained. The cash handling employees at the South Street Offices had poor security, were friendly but untrained and did not care about being trained. The supervisor was not always on site and the cash handling area was a potential security risk. There was not a set cash security process. The lack of which, put the laid back employees at high risk for theft. The public restroom gave access behind the desk to the general public. The TEDC is staffed by one or two employees that are very casual. They appear to have developed their own systems and are hesitant to make drastic changes. There are also some problems with uniformity of procedures and some employees are bending the rules. We didn’t get to interview some of the other employees but there might also be a problem with employees knowing the security policies. There are also procedures that would make the area more secure but they aren’t always being followed and they processes have devolved into a hit or miss accounting of who is taking what and when. The vehicle yard was a potentially high risk area but they have implemented some good physical security measures to alleviate some of the problems. The security guard at the vehicle yard appeared well trained and offered helpful and honest
