While they too are there to prevent crime, their effectiveness is related to their motivation and other factors. Malls hire security to prevent and catch shoplifters and assist with emergencies. Now, security guards can only be effective if they want to be. If the goals are set to high and the employee can not reach them then there is a problem. For example, one guard for a multi-story mall might become an issue, or the lack of training is another way the security programs can be affected when it comes to providing security for stores.
The following issues I have identified are: Staff training and Procedures There is currently no training taking place within the store as it is seen as a waste of money. This is causing low staff moral and is showing in staff attitudes. The procedures booklet issued by head office is almost redundant and is unused by the store. Structure of Staffing The business seems to be top heavy with little or no respect for night Managers. It seems though the manager and assistant are not seeing the business as a whole by not working different shift patterns.
For example; operations such as drug raids are planned democratically beforehand, but when the plan is put into practice or action the leader will be authoritarian as there is no time for discussion. Authoritarian leaders maintain order and discipline, making this style effective. The style also makes decision making and arrangement quick and efficient, and helps large scale co-ordination. The down side to using this leadership type is that the team don’t develop initiative and less responsibility for their actions as they rely on the leader. There is usually a low staff morale, meaning poor performance and high staff turnover.
Although not technically necessary, following this step eliminates all possibility that the shoplifter still intends to pay for the stolen product. A few courts have held that detaining someone for shoplifting inside a retail store does not establish the criminal intent of theft. However, in several states shoplifters can be detained once they have concealed the merchandise. When approaching a shoplifter outside of the store always have a least one trained employee as a witness. There is safety in numbers and most shoplifters will cooperate if they believe fighting or running is futile.
An ongoing concern is that officer’s power has seemed to be almost eliminated and that causes problems with inmates and hostility amongst staff. Inmates refuse orders and challenge officers because he or she is aware that the officer cannot initiate a write up or lock down without involving supervisors and following a specific protocol. At times it seems that inmates have more rights and respect than officers so it is important to appropriately handle these frustrations and not let it affect his or her personal lives. Some individuals become officers because of inadequacies he or she has not dealt with or power and control issues instead of love for the position which can be
The drawbacks with Eastern * * state model is they do not see other people during the day and for Auburn model the inmate are * * interacting with each other on a daily. In by them reacting to each other on a daily this could cause a * * problem with some of the other inmates. After reading all the information that I know about these two * * models the winning model is the Auburn Model. This is the winner because it is affordable, * * productivity and efficient management. I didn’t choose the Eastern Model because this model would * * not be an affordable model for the society to have to pay.
Building security is important because you want to prevent an intruder from causing damage, stealing property, or harming employees. It is also very important to protect the grounds of the office or home from an intruder. It is beneficial to have security in place to prevent an intruder from getting onto the grounds in the first place. If the intruder cannot get onto the grounds in the first place, then they will not be able to be able to commit crime. In today’s world there are more and more cybercrimes being committed and protecting sensitive information such as social security numbers is crucial.
During shift reports and company meetings, these things are discussed, but with a lack of caring, it was a lose-lose situation. I’ve witnessed that if they can fit in with the residents, it would make the job easier for them. They are more than likely to get by with just about anything without the resident going back and reporting it to management. You become careless to your job duties; and that’s exactly what happened with
Those people that are labeled as elder abusers, thieves or predators cannot be a part of the staff in these facilities and must carefully be weeded out of the hiring process. This is done by conducting criminal background checks on the applicants that have hiring potential. Other forms of turnover in SNFs can be caused by poor management. Although the job of the administrator is to make sure the residents are taken care of, a good administrator will try to make sure that staff morale is at a tolerable level. By assuring the staff that their cries and complaints are not being overlooked and rewarding the hard work and accomplishments of the
One of the advantages of patrolling is that it gives potential criminals the fear of being caught in the act and citizens the peace of knowing that they are being protected against crime. Organizing these patrols starts with answering calls, assigning police presence to any given area, and looking into any suspicious activities. The patrolmen and patrolwomen that are responsible for the patrolling are, without a doubt, the police department’s most important resource. Each officer or group of officers is responsible for a particular well-defined area. While patrolling on foot doesn’t necessarily reduce crime, it does give the community the feeling of being safe and secure.
