She emphasizes obstacle that faced and the responsibility that she had as student and new mother by using her own experience. Also, she stated that with the right resources and attitude, parents can pursue higher education. At the beginning she describes feeling out of place and uncomfortable on campus “Crammed behind my desk, I fidgeted and shifted my eyes to observe the other students in the room. I tried not to look the way I felt- like I didn’t belong there with them.” Also, she narrates difficulties that she faced after high-school graduation.
The introductory gives a little background on how the TYC came about. The location and make-up of the Giddings State School. The format of this book made it an easy read. The transition from one chapter to the next never made you want to eagerly want to read it non-stop, but it didn’t have an abrupt end between the chapters either. I find that a fine quality in a book.
However, this change will only be temporary. One of the major changes I need to do is to manage my time wisely. When I made the decision of going back to school, I was conscious about the things I needed to give up to make time for school. Uncertain if online school was really for me. Going through the materials online I really like what I read and having one class pre semesters was a good for me deal. Putting my mind to the ultimate test is something that Ashford can do for me. Just by taking my first three classes I feel more comfortable with school.
My aptitude also helped me, because I like languages. And English seemed to be fairly easy to learn. I do not remember having to put much effort on learning words or patterns. This indeed contributed to help me learn another language. Nowadays I speak three languages.
