Candace Lubben title Growing I attended a Lutheran school from kindergarten till my sophomore year in high school. Going to a Lutheran school I had many connection and resources. Everyone knew everyone and the teachers knew you at a very personal level. You also had very close relationships with your classmates because you started kindergarten together and continued your education with them till twelfth grade. I liked that my teachers new me on a personal level. They knew my strengths and weakness in school. Kindergarten to second grade I never had a problem with reading or writing. When I entered the third grade the expectations of knowing how to read turned to reading and comprehending the meaning of the text. I thought that this would be very easy for me because I could read the text so why couldn’t I just comprehend it? I struggled with comprehending what the…show more content…
Mrs. Brandt talked about her concern of my comprehending level not increasing at the same rate as my classmates. She told them she had been working with me one on one, but that I needed more practice and more one on one time that she could not provide. She suggested that my parents take me to a tutor or to Sylvan Learning Center. Mrs. Brandt stressed that comprehending was a very important skill to have and that if I did not acquire the skill I would struggle with literature the rest of my life. My parents came home that night and told me what Mrs. Brandt’s concern was. They told me that I would be going to Sylvan Learning Center to get extra tutoring on reading and comprehending. I told my parents that what Mrs. Brandt had told them was all a lie and that I would not be attending Sylvan. They sat me down and told me the importance of comprehending what I read. They said that if I did not increase my comprehension level I would struggle in literature the rest of my life. They told me I would be attending Sylvan and that I had no
