Organized crime takes place when a group of individuals work together on a continuous basis in illegal as well as legal enterprises conducting illegal activities. These activities could include human trafficking, illegal gambling, drug trafficking, etc. Although there are illegal activities taking place, the organized crime group usually will have legal businesses as well where legitimate individuals are the ones who manage them. These businesses are put together in hopes that the organized crime group will have an easier way to launder the money made from their illegal activities while trying not to raise any red flags. There are empirical and speculative theories on how these organized crime groups start. Let’s take a look at some of these theories and options to the behavior behind organized crime. In reality most people perception about organized crime is not an accurate description to what really is. When one thinks of organized crime the most common idea is of the gangster of 20s and 30s or the popular idea of the mafia. But usually this idea is mostly part of television.

Controlling Police Brutality The police have served an integral part in society as out protectors. Throughout the years, however, scholars as well as we citizens have begun to question the use of force, racism and internal corruption as well as other forms of misconduct by our officers of the law. The excessive use of force by police officers persists because of overwhelming barriers to their accountability. For instance, when police do get in trouble, it is normally a slap on the wrist, a lecture or loss of a vacation day as it stated in the article “Good Cop Bad Cop.” This fact makes it possible for officers who commit these violations to escape punishment and then often repeat their offenses. Every report of abuse is often met with denial or explanation of why the abuse was necessary instead of taking any real action like a suspension or removal of their badge in most cases.
