In a way, these groups thrive off of the people in their community, while the community is completely unaware of what’s going on.

This is a broad description of what organized crime is, the reality is that organized crime cannot be defined in such a simple way. Organized crime has many elements and a variety of group dynamics, but some elements are similar to every group.
