Nowadays with social media being so heavily relied on and important, twitter also has a large role to play in this racism issue. Last season, the Washington Capitals eliminated the Boston Bruins in overtime. The game winning goal was scored by Joel Ward, one of the NHL’s few black players. Instantly, the racist comments on twitter blew up, “Stupid n***** go play basketball, hockey is a white sport”, or, “of all people to score it had to be the n*****” (Silverman, 2013).
