Lab File 1: Performance Profiling Performance profiling prioritizes and reflects upon components needed for performance. It was created from the ‘Personal Construct Theory’ and is used to develop profiled skills to enhance positive performance outcomes. (Butler, 1996, p.1) Four areas prioritized and reflected upon: 1. Muscle Strength is ‘the maximum force that can be exerted in a single voluntary contraction.’ (Koutedakis and Sharp, 1999, p.114) My contemporary feedback form highlighted core strength as an area in need of improvement as ‘the strength and coordination of the lower back, hip, and abdominal muscles are important in dance [and] conditioning these muscles can ensure strength in the centre.’ (Franklin, 2004, p.109) Another area in need of improvement is balance as muscle strength in the stomach and legs may help in this area. (Koutedakis and Sharp, 1999, p.114) 2. Self Talk: ‘Thoughts that come into one’s mind, either positive or negative.’ (Cox, 2002, p.26) Positive being an area of weakness hinders my self confidence and causes physiological effects. Self talk can enhance self confidence and performance by increasing positive feelings regarding ability. (Cox, 2002, p.26) 3. Performance skills: My head and eye levels are often low during class. The correct use of the eyes and the face can enhance performance, as when you dance with the whole of your body, your face is included and the eyes are an important feature of the face. (Franklin, 1996, pp.144-146) 4. Breath Control: Breathing which requires conscious attention. (Cox, 2002, p.146) To breeth correctly when dancing will improve my performance with the exhale of breath being particularly important as it can increase confidence and creativity with in your movements. (Franklin, 1996, p.245) Performance Profile Reviewed by lecturer Performer and coach should agree
