Not only do the commercials capture the men’s attention but it also grabs the women’s attention by giving the image of what a man should smell like and by creating a sexual theme that attracts attention. In our society, one intelligent way to sell a product targeted to men is to attract women. According to the website She-conomy, 85% of all consumer purchases are accounted for by women (Holland). Women have different point of views on commercials. If a commercial is really interesting to a woman, then it is more likely for her to purchase the product or to persuade men she knows to buy it.
X10/25/2010 Lust and sex appeal are two emotions that dominate the advertisement world. Everyone wants to be perceived as sexy, fun, and attractive by our peers. In order to appeal to these emotions we take part in these materialistic things. Advertisements in Shape magazine have grabbed the attention and captured the desires of their female audience. Shape magazine provides women with the latest information about diet, fitness, healthy living, and beauty products.
Since Old Spice is a male product line, most people would think this sales pitch is for the male audience only. Watching the Old Spice commercial many times made me realize there maybe other audiences drawn to the advertisement. Although most people think Old Spice is for men only, actually I think it could work for either gender, so therefore when women want to buy Old Spice it is not a big deal because it does not say it's only for men, so ladies are free to use the product.
This advertising strategy is always designed to encourage the target audience to make purchases, repurchases and increase brand loyalty (Moore & Wiliiam, 37). Old Spice made this advertisement not only to make their product to be recognized in the market place, but also to ensure customers shift to their product. This advertisement captures men by ensuring they reach out to the needs of women. It gives the image of how an ideal man should smell by creating a sexual theme that attracts attention of customers. Target audience of the advert The target audience of this advert is men through women as stated earlier.
Women are shown as having very thin figures, with a small waist and perfect skin, and men are shown as having obvious muscles without having them be too large and a set of abs. Women, as well as men are greatly affected by the way models look in magazines because of how they are presented. Women view themselves as not up to par, or ugly, or fat, and even men feel small, fat or insecure. Because models are also icons of how a person is supposed to look, women may starve themselves or binge eat, and men may work out excessively to gain
“If you’re a teenage boy and you looked at the advertising, you saw the girl that you want and the guy that you are,” Mr. Vinjamuri said. “What was brilliant about Axe is they said make the girl hunt you based on your smell.” “Girls in Axe advertising will always be a little better-looking than the guys, but the question is to what degree,” said Mr. Kolbusz, of Bartle Bogle Hegarty, adding that the more conventionally handsome actors in the Anarchy ads will still appeal to typical Axe users. “The guys can
Although it is overall empowering to women, that does not have to automatically mean it must be downgrading to men. There are some positive male roles, such as the police detective, Hal, and Jimmy, Louise’s boyfriend. When Geena Davis was asked about Thelma and Louise being considered a male-bashing movie, even she commented, “Most guys don't relate to the truck driver or the rapist, and if they do, their problems are bigger than this movie.” My analysis of Thelma and Louise discusses the friendship between the leading characters and their different personalities, how males are perceived in the movie and their relationships with the women, and the controversial ending of the movie. Thelma and Louise have opposite personalities but are together in the same risky undertaking. Thelma is passive, allowing her husband to dominate her life.
Kovalev loves to show off his good appearance to people, especially women, and get attention from them, which is proven by his repetitive mentioning of Madame Chektareva and Pelagea Grigorievna Podtochina throughout the story. However, when he loses his nose, his outgoing character is completely changed. Without his nose, he “must look at no one, and smile at no one” (Gogol, 5). It seems like his confidence springs from his nose. He could have asked for help to his acquaintances, but
Artifacts What is the “ideal man?” In today’s society the “ideal man” typically has big muscles, he is a good fighter, he’s handsome, he’s a gentleman, and he has a beautiful girlfriend. The further you differ from the “ideal man” in today’s world, the more of an outcast you are. Many commercials target their products directly at men. The companies try to make you believe that if you buy their product, that it will make you better and make you closer to the man you want to be. All commercials have a target audience.
Moreover, many celebrities are brand ambassadors of wine and liquor products, where they promote these products and their admirers starts boozing as their role model is promoting it. Furthermore, some celebrities create impossible standards of beauty and looks as a result of which more and more teenagers feel less confident and more dissatisfied with their look. Teenagers are at their puberty, where they undergo massive changes physically, mentally and emotionally. For instance, girls try to become thinner like their favorite television or movie star, where boys try to get good physical look as their favorite hero. To achieve desired body structure they attempt unhealthy ways, like taking mussel gain pills or fat reducing medicines, which may have detrimental effect on their health.
