After the American Civil War, General William Sherman stated, “War is hell!” All war, any war, takes a deadly toll on the two or more countries involved. A civil war, however, is a special kind of hell, for those who die are all citizens or residents of the same country. Wars, civil or otherwise, are usually fought over similar issues: racism, land, money, power, or fear. Oftentimes, conflicts occur over a combination of these issues. One such confrontation was the thirty-six-year civil war waged from 1960 to 1996 in the small Central American country of Guatemala.
We tried to catch Aidid’s chief lieutenants and we failed to change our tactic and therefore we suffered casualties. The United States tried to help Somalia get through famine and ended up fighting in their revolutionary war. Intelligence needs to be collected by more reliable sources, due to the six houses that did not have Mohammed Farah Aidid. The proper equipment is needed in order to complete the job efficiently and effectively. Communication needs to be better so that movement and orders are heard and coordinated.
Otho had sent his troops to late and his army suffered a horrible defeat. When he heard of this defeat ,he killed himself .Otho had reigned for barely 95 days.Aelius Vitellius was the next emperor. He abandoned himself to exaggeration and all but ignored the troops who had given him the throne. Also, upon hearing that the troops of his rival ,Vespasian, were approaching Rome Vitellius begged the senate to allow him to leave the throne and live as a private citizen so he could be
A collection of kingdoms make up the country of Sudan. Six million of the people in Sudan live in the southern part. The people of Sudan have two distinct cultures- Arab and Black African(Military). The country is also one of the largest countries in Africa. In 1956 Sudan gained independence from Great Britain, but by then war was already starting between the north and the south.
The conflict began following the first multiparty elections in the country since gaining independence from Belgium in 1962. The conflict came to an end when a politician by the name of Pierre Nkurunziza was chosen to lead the country in August of 2005. The war took a huge toll on the population, resulting in an estimated 300,000 deaths. There were many efforts made by third parties to broker peace, however many fell short due to a lack of focus on the fundamental issues of the conflict (Piombo, 2010). Peacemaking Process The Arusha talks were a series of meetings that sought to end the conflict in Burundi.
Many stated after that they, one day would like to go back to Vietnam and help rebuild the country that the helped destroy. Even though America was and still is seen as one of the world’s most prevailing superpowers, the withdrawal from Vietnam was inevitable. There was no clear way for the military to secure their victory in the War without having to lose thousands of soldiers. The War ended with the exact opposite of what all soldiers had spent the majority of their life fighting for. Vietnam succumbed to the communist rule and the rest of the world watched in
The communist government of the North wished the United States to stop their support of the South Vietnam efforts against communism. The US didn't actually start fighting in the war until troops first entered the small country in March of 1965. The United States army and the South Vietnamese army worked together to try and fight off the North were fighting to unify Vietnam as one communist country. Although America withdrew troops in 1973 the South still fought for their freedom
There was talk that there were not going to be enough troops to fight this war. They were running out of supplies faster than they could be replenished. “January of 2005, it was confirmed that there were no weapons of mass destruction found“ (Rowen, Iraq Timeline). In February, a suicide bomber killed about 115 people by blowing up his car. Later on in November of the same year, Bush states that “pulling troops before they have complete their purpose would not be a plan for success“( Rowen, Iraq Timeline).
In 1991, Ethiopia fought for their independence until 1991, year in which its rebel forces defeated Ethiopian military. In April 1993, an internationally monitored referendum took place, in which, an estimated 98.5% of the registered people voted, and 99.8% of these were in favor of independence, although the borders were not clearly defined. However, the main reason for the recent conflict is the fact that Ethiopia no longer has a border along the Red Sea and therefore shipping and goods-trading relies on going through other countries such as Eritrea to get to the shore. Ethiopian propaganda has said to its people that one of the things the government wants to do is to ensure that a more amenable government is in place, one that agrees with Ethiopian interests. A ceasefire agreement was signed in Algiers in June 18, 2000.
It’s even harder when your family is in war against the communist government. At nine years old I didn’t even understand what the word “exile” means. We were politically exiled from our country and couldn’t even visit for two years, until we got a permit. Its not an easy thing to relate too. For a long time I felt that no one understood what I was going through.
