November 15, 2013 As a National Honor Society (NHS) member, it is important to service my community by bringing support and assistance to those that are less fortunate. I will continue to serve my community in a volunteer roll with organizations like; the United States Army's Southwest Information Operation Center’s (SWIOC) “Support the Troops Christmas Dinner”, Mentoring the Youth of San Antonio Summer program coordinated by Mrs. Yolanda Garcia and The Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner for the community of San Antonio. Character is important to all NHS members because it shows other young adults how they should be performing in the presence of others. It also prepares you for those situations when your character will be tested from those without any. I will continue to insure that I exhibit character becoming of family and myself by bringing pride to the NHS program as an academic and community representative. Throughout my participation in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program at John Jay High School and community volunteer programs, I have been taught leadership skills that I can apply to the NHS program, as well as, to my everyday life. I believe leaders are the first to help or lead when it comes to completing goals and tasks. Leaders set examples for people to follow, look up to and should be the goal of every young person to achieve. I believe through time management skills that I have learned and obtained while participating in mentoring programs and volunteer services, I can maintain and sustain my GPA at the highest standard that I have set for myself in order to achieve multiple scholarships to top rank universities such as, St. Mary University and Incarnate Word University that I have selected to attend. As a member of the NHS program I believe it will serve as a pillar in my life to great opportunities and future development on
