Miley Cyrus: The Social Media Movement Today’s world seems to revolve a lot around the use of social media such as Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. Even celebrities use social media to keep fans updated on their recent activities and publicize their lives. In my recent studies I have analyzed celebrity Twitter profile of Miley Cyrus. Cyrus posts primarily consist of shout outs and announcements about her recent works in the music industry, a clear example of how social media can be used for a form of advertisement. An analysis of Mileys profile reveals that she uses her profile to advertise her music and keeps her fans updated of her upcoming music albums. Social media like twitter and Facebook make a great way to advertise the singer’s upcoming albums. The profile of Miley Cyrus is not dummy profile because there is a blue check mark that indicates that the person is verified and the profile is an official profile. The intended audience for Miley Cyrus’s profile is her fan base itself. Having mutual thoughts of Miley, my impression when first viewing her Twitter profile, was the background photo which turned out to be the cover of her latest album Bangerz. The Profile had a link to iTunes so that the singles could easily be purchased. The profile also had some photos of Bangerz album with Miley on the photo. Her profile attracts people not only from the United States, but from people all around the world, as the world is now becoming more western cultured. Her extensive fan base is spread due to fan pages on Twitter that inform fans in their language such as Spanish or Portuguese. Miley’s fans, or sometimes referred to as “Smilers”, have made Miley’s profile popular and allowed her to reach an audience of over fourteen million followers.
