Microsoft Antitrust Microsoft Antitrust Microsoft Corporation is one of the largest software companies in the world. It prides itself on being the most innovative software company out there. It is very popular among every age group. So it’s hard to believe such a popular, innovative company could be caught in an antitrust lawsuit? Microsoft Corporation was founded on April 4, 1975 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Today their headquarters is in Redmond, Washington. Bill Gates and Paul Allen are the founders of Microsoft. Growing up together as childhood friends, they both shared a love and passion for computer programming. On Jan 1975, they had a chance to take that passion for computer programming and make something out of it. Popular Electronics featured MITS (Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems) Altair 8800. Bill Gates and Paul Allen created the BASIC Interpreter for the Altair 8800. From there the company was founded and Microsoft took off. Now it is the software giant we all have come to know. (Microsoft Corporation, p.1) Today the company is run by Steve Ballmer, who is the CEO. Bill Gates resigned as CEO and became Chairman of Microsoft instead. Microsoft’s annual revenue, based on 2011 figures, is $69.84 billion. Their annual net income is $23.15 billion. Within the entire company, they have 92,000 employees. Microsoft’s mission statement says the company was created “to enable people and businesses throughout the world to realize their full potential”. (Jones, p.1) Microsoft, the largest software company in the world, sells computer software, online services, as well as video games. Throughout the life of the company, they have produced amazing products. The first of many of course was the BASIC Interpreter.
