This essay will be discussing how an understanding of communication can ensure that individuals with mental health issues feel valued and empowered. I will comply with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of conduct. The code gives the ‘standards of conduct, performance and ethics for nurses and midwives’ (NMC 2008). I will also respect the patient’s confidentiality; the patient I have chosen to discuss will be referred to as ‘Mr Davies’, a pretend name.
