Veronica Hart English 1-11/09-015 Dr. Carlos October 2, 2012 Research in the Library On September 25th I interviewed Matthew Todd, who is the collection development librarian. Todd is in charge of which books come into the library and which books are taken out of the library at Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC). Our conversation was based on what improvements can be made to the library. As I continued researching the library I discovered other aspects of the NVCC library that could be improved, such as: advertising, work-space in the library, and library benefits. NVCC library pays over 200 thousand dollars a year to run the campus and online library. So why isn’t there any physical space? Why aren’t there enough sockets in the library for the students to sit anywhere? Why can’t students rent a whole set of books, to be prepared for all of their classes. New books always come in, so why do the old books have to go? As I was talking to Matthew Todd we conversed on how to make…show more content…
If I would have never met Mrs. Anderson, who introduced us to the (NVCC) library online, I would have never learned certain things such as; researching, magazines, and the Washington post, it’s all available for FREE. students will love it; if it could be put into student orientation as students enter the school people including myself would take a big breath of relief .other than advertising I asked Mr. Todd what can we do to improve our library add a social lounge? Sectioning walls? What are nova’s goals? His response was ‘’adding compartments or (potentially) building a new library in a new building”. Even though everything that was said isn’t going to be done overnight patience is virtue. Just To know that he (Todd) is trying is more than enough there is never enough expanding to a project I take the library as a project that is being worked on, hopefully it will expand and become something better than what I see it as
