Television, computer games, food additives, music are bad examples of role models. All of these and lack of role models are all cited as reasons for a supposed breakdown in society, an increased tendency towards violence. In Bandura’s experiment children were randomly assigned to one of two groups. One group was exposed to a video of a woman attacking a Bobo doll, while the other children were not exposed to any video. Bandura wanted to measure how many aggressive acts child would commit after being exposed to some else electing this kind of negative behaviour.
Later Jones started the research about violent media after pop psychologists said the violent stories are harmful to children. Jones also states two girls as examples to show the affect from the violent media, and these two girls have big improvement in their life. Jones tried to point out violent media may give negative violent idea to child, but it provide a method to learn more about themselves and build up confidence for themselves. In this essay, Jones talked about violent media can also help children grow up in a good way, because it can help them overcome their problem. Jones gave an example about his son, when his son was first grader and all the friends started to climb tree in the school.
Argumentative Essay To: Mr. Dotzko From: Jean-Marc Francois Due Date: December, 19/11 Child spanking is a huge issue in our world today and some people consider it abusing each other while others say it’s fair discipline. These opposing opinions have been going on for a while according to our law system there’s a fine line between abuse and child spanking but a lot of people say it’s bad parenting to spank children and shouldn’t be done. Child spanking is a fair way to discipline your children and is not abusive according to the Human Right Code. It’s an effective way to discipline children and get them into shape but it can be considered abuse because it causes a lot of increased aggressiveness in children. Child abusing and child spanking are two completely different things and I think that it’s just fine to discipline your children with spanks and that it’s not abusive.
Bryan Helrigel English 121 I-Search paper Draft 1 November 17, 2009 If they only were aware of his previous record as a sex offender… If only they knew a child sexual predator was living next door. When we think of these awful things, we always think of what could have been done differently. Being a parent myself, I always hope for the best for my child, but fear the worst. Because I work in the security industry,I’m more aware of criminal activities than most parents who are less knowledgeable about the criminal justice field. Among many fears, child sexual abuse is in my top five.

The model is most likely to be imitated if: the model is similar to the observer, the model is admired and/or the observer as low self-esteem. However this I s also dependant on previous experience of observed behaviour, current likelihood of aggressive behaviour being rewarded or punished and external factors like heat or noise – because if it’s too hot you’re probably already agitated which would in turn make you more aggressive. Bandura et al studied 66 nursery school children and split them into 3 groups. She showed them al a video where an adult model assaulted a bobo doll and commented aggressively. E.g.
I read the book “Who’s in Control: Dr. Balter’s Guide to discipline without combat” by Dr Lawrence Balter. He begins the book by discussing various parenting styles over the years. He discusses theories of ‘Sparing the rod and Spoiling the child’ and of training children as one would a pet. Regular beatings used to be a way of controlling children until psychoanalysis grew in popularity and was many times misunderstood, setting no limits on children and giving children free reign. Both parenting styles produced unhappy and un-self disciplined children.
Those against it say that spanking can cause children to become violent and may increase the chances of anxiety and depression. I believe that spanking your child is ethical, but once again to an extent and a lot of what situation you are in. In my essay I’m going to explain the pros of spanking your child, the cons of spanking your child, , and my opinion for why spanking your child is ethical. First, I will discuss some pros on why spanking your child is okay. A recent study of interviewing 2600 people pertaining to corporal punishment and questioning 179 teenagers about getting spanked performed by Marjorie Gunnoe, a professor of psychology at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan says that “the claims made for spanking your child fail to hold up.
The researchers’ results indicated “the [Scared Straight] intervention to be more harmful than doing nothing. The program effect, whether assuming a fixed or random effects model, was nearly identical and negative in direction, regardless of the meta-analytic strategy.” In other words, Scared Straight not only doesn’t work, it may actually be more harmful than doing nothing. (Mears, 2007; Marion & Oliver, 2006). I ask myself if Scared Straight really works with all of the mayhems that’s going on with our youth, or are we just kidding ourselves by having our kids visiting jails, listening to officers preacher a good talk, or better yet, having prisoners get directly into the faces of the youths, yelling, screaming, talking about what they would do to the youth if they ever come into contact with the youth, but those kids know that when they leave there, it’s back to business as usual, doing the same thing that got them into trouble in the first place. Laura Nissen, a writer from Reclaiming Futures, writes about a program that really work for our youths.
