This kind of event is representative of a little girl becoming a woman. This makes the speech of the mother make a little more sense. She is explaining to her daughter all the things she will need to know as a woman. The unfortunate part for the girl is that she will have to grow up so quickly.
The novel consists of short stories that all connect with each other. They are told from a first person point of view, by the main character, Esperanza Cordero; she mainly expresses her observations of those surrounding her and her experiences as she is growing up. Sandra Cisneros uses a plot consisting of brief stories that Esperanza narrates pertaining to her life in her new house on Mango Street. Many of these brief stories are the expressive experiences that Esperanza is going through in her new home and with those whom she meets. Esperanza is at a point in life where she is about to mature from a child, to a woman, and the progress of these events are expressed through the details of the people she gets along with and what she goes through with them.
Some things that occur in an instant of person’s life that is their childhood, can stick with them for an eternity. In the novel, The Help, written by Kathryn Stockett, Skeeter, the main character goes through a series events, that begin in her childhood, that change her actions as an adult. From her maid growing up, Constantine, to her friendships and her enemies, Skeeter’s experiences as a child made her out of the ordinary as an adult. The first event in Skeeter’s childhood that led her to do what she did as and adult, was having Constantine as a mother figure in her life. Because Skeeter’s parents weren’t a big part of her life as a child, they left their help to raise their daughter.
