Leadership Style Paper HCS/475 Sherita Brown Key Smith Leadership Style Paper Our character is an expression of who we are. Who we are is proven in the decisions we make. The decisions that we make define the extent of our influence. The extent of our influence determines the impact of our leadership. In this paper I will examine the leadership of Howard Schultz, and why his style is successful. Additionally I will compare my leadership style to the successful leader that I have identified. Based on my reading, I see Howard Schultz as having a successful leadership style. Howard Schultz the founder of Starbucks coffeehouses and he is also considered to be an industry pioneer in providing health insurance and retirement coverage to part-time as well as full-time employees . Mr. Schultz is considered a successful leader and his leadership style authentic. Howard Schultz has self-awareness and this is one of the main characteristics of an authentic leader. Additionally, authentic leaders are introspective, they recognize where they are coming from, and have an in-depth understanding of their own values and priorities (" Contemporary Approaches to Leadership", 2009). Furthermore, an authentic leader is not afraid to show who they really are because they encompass such high levels of personal integrity. They say what they think. They behave in a way consistent with their values—they practice what they preach. Instead of trying to imitate other great leaders, they find their style in their own personality and life experiences. After reviewing the results of my Leadership and Team Self-Management Assessment, I believe that my leadership style compare to Howard Schultz quite well. For example, I have found that
