By overcoming challenges and obstacles, Josie was empowered to transform her life and come to a greater awareness of self, others and the world. Her initial perspective of ‘the perfect life’ is apparent in Josie’s internal voice-over, “But thank Christ that even in the most tragic of lives, there’s always a sliver of hope… and his name is John Barton”. Josie indicates that John Barton hope and inspiration to the less-fortunate. It is through John Barton’s influence from his life and death to which Josie is lead to convey her perspectives towards life.
