A lot of people converted to Christianity because they lost faith in the Romans. At first most Christians were Jews but less strict. Many values were different but they still followed Jewish dietary laws and shared many beliefs with the Jews. The early Christians also got circumcised got. The Christians started adopting the values that they have today during the time that Saul/Paul was alive.
Were the Sadducees, Zealots, Essenes and Pharisees Jewish? Didn’t they originate from the mindset of another individual? Didn’t they build their faith and believes on the interpretation of that one person who decided to practice a different way of Judaism than the others? Many are of the opinion that Jesus wanted to destroy the law and implement his own. Since his apprenticeships partially cancel the Jewish laws, he is not considered being Jewish by many Jews.
But most modern Christians have a more hardened view of homosexuals than they’ve ever had. Some see homosexuals as being in direct league with Satan, as they also believed about "witches". Gays are seen as a direct threat to society and to the sanctity of the family. Homosexuality is referred to as an abomination. Next to abortion, nothing seems to unite Christians more than the fear of homosexuality.
A few of the bad sides of religion include the way that different religions get stereotyped into the most terrible side of extremists. Another example of the past negativity the church has had in the past is the many crusades the church went on in order to force their outlook on the masses of Europe. There has also been many counts of corruption stemming from the Vatican all the way back to the beginning of the biblical era. Lastly the church has the ability to bring out the vilest sides of some people that turn into extreme groups that castigate and have even killed the people that didn’t follow their norms. The church we are talking about in this context is more the organized institution of church and not the sanctuaries some people confide in or, the community that the Sunday sermon can bring to people.
Emperors were not at all glad and felt indifferent to Christianity. How could an emperor promise to a faith which involved the worship of Jesus Christ, an executed Jewish criminal? This faith was also popular among slaves and soldiers, hardly the respectable orders in society. The story of Constantine’s conversion has learned an amazing excellence, which is expected from the point of view of contemporary Christians. They had just emerged from the so-called ‘Great Persecution’ under the emperor Diocletian at the end of the third century.
The Last Judgment caused a big dispute between Cardinal Carafa and Michelangelo. It became a big deal because Michelangelo was accused of immorality and vulgarism because it had naked people with their genitals in evidence. It was mostly made a big deal because the image is in a church of Christianity. So then a censorship campaign was organized by Carafa to remove the frescoes. The genitalia in the fresco were covered twenty-four years later.
Robin Williams has been speculated to be an atheist, although his family was religious. Williams has always used God in many of his jokes; as a result many religions became upset because they did not hold the same belief as him. As I was researching I came across an article titled “Christians report Robin Williams is in hell,” I mention this to give an idea of how strongly the Christian (or many other religions) were against his own religion, his suicide, and his sense of humor. This article was filled with comments of Christians verbally attacking Williams; this (Christian) society had neglected him. His own values were not in agreeance with a majority of the society; therefore he belonged to the small part of atheist in the U.S. (compared to Protestants and Catholics) and was detached from a immense part of
The Middle Age religious conflicts were truly a terrible time for all major religions. However, these barbaric crusades and jihads are no longer a part of popular religions teachings. Christianity and Islam, the two largest religions in the world, now preach peace and pacifistic solutions to conflicts rather than persecution. As Rushdie points out, there are still some “religious” conflicts that result in violence but most, if not all, of these conflicts are brought about by the extremists of a religious group and do not represent the views of any church as a whole. The peaceful teachings of the modern day religions have helped to bring many families
It can also be expressed in the form of vandalism and racial slurs that target these people (Hertzberg 1989). Religious teachings can also be used to fuel this hate. Anti-Semitism has been around for many centuries. The first recorded instance of this hate was during the Roman invasion of Jerusalem (Nicholls 1993). The hate increased after the death of Christ because the Jews were seen as the people who let the Romans crucify Jesus (Crossan 1995).
Denominations differ in their views concerning the use of alcohol. Discuss the views of any 2 of these denomination? Alcohol appears regularly in the Bible, both in actual usage and in poetic expression, and on the whole, the Bible is ambivalent toward them, considering them both a blessing from God that brings cheerfulness and a possible risk that can be unwisely and sinfully abused. The Bible makes it clear that Jesus drank wine, in Matthew 15:11 and Luke 7:33-35, and approved of its moderate consumption in Matthew 15:11. On the other hand, he was critical of drunkenness the later writings of St. Paul talk about alcohol in detail and are vital to traditional Christian doctrine on the subject.
