Jewish Sects Sects had a lot of the influence upon the religion. Most of the members of the Sanherdrin wee Sadducees. While they were concerned with stability of Jerusalem they favored the torah and the first five books. They did not believe that the other books of the Old Testament were authoritative. Also they did believe in angels or the resurrection from the dead because these documents were not well documented in the Pentateuch. Essenes, which are the Dead Sea scrolls, started around 150 bc. There were priest that gathered in the Jewish temple and they had been corrupt.
