nti-semitism(First name) Smith Instructor’s Name Course Number 27 November 2012 Anti-Semitism Anti-Semitism is simply the hatred of Jews (Poliakov 1985). The hatred can be expressed in many ways. It can be political, where policies aimed at oppressing the Jews are made and enforced. (Jenness & Kendal 1997). It can also be expressed in the form of vandalism and racial slurs that target these people (Hertzberg 1989). Religious teachings can also be used to fuel this hate. Anti-Semitism has been around for many centuries. The first recorded instance of this hate was during the Roman invasion of Jerusalem (Nicholls 1993). The hate increased after the death of Christ because the Jews were seen as the people who let the Romans crucify Jesus (Crossan 1995). Anti-Semitism has therefore existed throughout the centuries up to the holocaust when the effects of this hate were broadcasted to the whole world (Popkin and Gordon 1994). This can be attributed to the fact that the Jews have been integrated in the society and they have made a name for themselves in things such as businesses, science, media and communication (Dimont 1978). This fete has also left a bad taste in the mouths of some people that still harbor hate for the Jews. Here in America, there are still many reported cases of anti-Semitism. The cases are pronounced in states that have the highest number of Jews. These include; California, New Jersey, New York and Florida (Brenner 2010). According to the Anti-Defamation League, the cases of anti Semitism in the United States are in the form of bullying in schools, vandalism of private and public Jewish property, physical assault and lastly verbal assault.
