Secondly the adoption of Christianity ruined unity in Rome. Thirdly Rome`s military short comings ruined their civilization in the long run. In conclusion the Roman Empire caused its own demise. Rome`s economic policies created an unsustainable Rome. When the Roman system of capturing foreign lands and enslaving them started to fail so did the Roman economy, the over inflation of the Roman economy lead to a loss of economic freedom, the Romans lack of innovation lead to an
1). Churches and entire towns were burned down; the town of Dordrecht was burned down by Barbarian tribes such as the Vikings triggered chaos (Doc.3). This caused people to abandon their lifestyles and that meant a decline in trade, which brought down the economy. During this period of time most people were
Before the plague death was accepted and welcome. Now it was look upon as something to fear. “Some of the people were upset with the priest because they only would see the rich for money and they could not cure the plague as they had promised. (Religious Impact, 11-14-2005). In some cases it causes people to change to more extreme forms of religion like the flagellants, this was a movement that called for them to beat themselves for punishment.
This is demonstrated in documents 4, 5, and 6. Henry Haskell states that “The government undertook such far-reaching responsibility in affairs that the fiber of the citizens weakened” (Document 4) This shows that the decline of the empire was due to heavy taxation that couldn’t support the government. If the taxes couldn’t sustain the government then it wouldn’t be able to control the people. According to Montanelli “The military crisis was the result of… proud old aristocracy’s… shortage of children” (Document 5) This means that many children weren’t old enough to go into the military which caused the decrease of soldiers. With the lack of soldiers, it would be easier to invade Rome, which could’ve led to the decline of the Empire.
Also, many experts say that it fell because of the lack of heart the people had to the Empire, the rise of Christianity, it was too immense to govern and protect, the decline of the economy and jobs, the army being made up of mostly foreigners, and outside invaders. Thus, one can say that the Empire collapsed more internally than externally. The first reason why the Western Roman Empire fell was because the people that lived in it had a lack of heart in the Empire. People didn’t believe the Empire was worth saving anymore. As Strayer, Gatzke, and Harbison state in their textbook The Course of Civilization states “The basic trouble was that very few inhabitants of the empire believed that the old civilization was worth saving… the overwhelming majority of the population had been systematically excluded from political responsibilities.
Alongside the European wars were the disunity and loss of trade dominance that led to the ultimate demise of the Dutch Republic. There were three Anglo-Dutch wars and the effect on the Republic was cumbersome. There were 2,000-2,700 Dutch ships seized by the English and 500 English ships seized by the Dutch. This shows how the merchants truly took a hit during the wars, which brought down the Republic substantially. These numbers are found in Document 3.
History has shown that Rome fell because of the Roman army, foreign invasions, and disasters and diseases. One of the primary reasons for the fall of Rome was the Roman army. “Because of negligence and laziness”, they stopped having training drills, and they also got rid of their armour piece by piece. Since the soldiers rarely wore armour, breastplates and helmets began to seem heavy. This made the Romans prone to injuries and “because they have no armor, think about running and not fighting” (Document B).
And the only aristocrats who stood up for change were assassinated by corrupt senators. The ex small farmers were absolutely furious. Not only was the government corrupt, but the roman army was weakening. The large population of landless roman citizens could
Consequently, he locked all the sea-ports of Europe as well as English goods. To make matters worse, he punished with fights all the countries which would not accept his system. At this moment, Napoleon´s oppression turned society against him. So, his determinations began to fail (Harding, 2012). Conclusion The main conclusion to be drawn for this paper is that the French Revolution was characterized mainly by war, famine and depression, which were caused by the failure of King Louis XVI at managing the finance of the notion properly.
John Blake writes about his interview with pastor, Andy Stanley, in his article “A New Challenge for Andy Stanley.” In the article, Stanley says, “What preachers once taught as biblical truth-slavery is sanctioned by God; women aren’t allowed to preach; gambling and dancing are sins-is now rejected by many churches.” This not only confirms that America’s society does change to accommodate other beliefs, but also that these changes can be good things. The Civil War proves my previous point that these changes don’t always come easily. Today, we are faced with the tension of integrating minority religions such as Buddhism and Hinduism into a Judeo-Christian society due to ignorance and fear of Muslims. We can only speculate what the future holds for these groups and American Society. However, based on what I know of our nation’s history, I expect great things in the end.
