McLeod IT236 03/17/2012 Elizabeth Blackwell Checkpoint: Graphic Design INTRODUCTION In order for media to work properly in a Web site, it is important to have a multimedia format and plug-in to view media files. According to About.com, plug-ins are needed to gain full functionality between a computer software and the web browser. CONTENT REQUIREMENTS For this assignment, I have chosen Adobe Flash Player, as this is an ideal multimedia format and plug-in for viewing YouTube movies. It is also need to run .swf animation files. Approximately 75% of the online animated advertisements and 100% of the YouTube videos operate from .swf animation files (About.com, 2012). When including graphics in the Web site, I am going to be using JPG pictures because some of the pictures will be of people, so I want to use the picture option that has the most color options. Also, JPG pictures are larger file sizes; however, GIF pictures are limited to 256 color options. It is just a matter of time before GIF images are eliminated as picture options and no longer available for use. Images that I will be using in my Web site include pictures of people that support my site’s content, images to enhance my site (scrolls or banners), and at least one YouTube video designed to teach the visitor something to protect herself. For example, I will be implementing a self-defense video so that a woman can defend herself, in the event she is attacked or raped. For my content requirements, I will include the following information: characteristics of a predator and abuser, behavioral warning signs in a potential assailant, side effects and appearance of date rape drugs, contact information for domestic violence shelters, and phone numbers for rape and abuse hotlines.
