Numerous professionals within the team are trained in CBT, and use CBT to treat a wide range of issues including self-harm; this is where my interest derives. Through involvement it proved CBT to be efficacious in treating depression and problem solving ability among others thus I have decided to research further into the effectiveness of CBT in the treatment of self-harm. Through research it is evident that self-harming behaviour is frequent among adolescents and young adults and these behaviours are not only challenging on their own but are major risk factors for future suicide (Robinson et al, 2011). “Deliberate self-harm among young people is an important focus of policy and practice internationally. Nonetheless, there is little reliable comparative international information on its extent or characteristics” (Madge et al, 2008:667).
Skills and Characteristics of Mental Health Human Services Workers BSHS/471 Skills and Characteristics of Mental Health Human Services Workers Growing up, we as humans learn to have compassion for others and we learn that we can offer our help to whatever individuals may be going through. We may offer help to our friends, families, or we even may be kind enough to help out individuals that we do not even know. One particular issue that this world is faced with today, especially America, is mental health. Today, there are professional service workers who fight for, assist, and counsel these mental health patients. These professionals possess great skills and characteristics required to offer assistance to the patients to help them be better and function in society.
I. Introduction Are children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) at high risk of developing depression as adolescents or adults? This is a question that is important for many people. The families of children with ADHD should understand this topic, because if they are at high risk, then parents can be alerted to the symptoms of depression. A key part of the prognosis of any disorder or disease is early detection; known risk factors help provide an avenue for early diagnosis and treatment, and therefore an improved prognosis.
Shalea Dixon HCA/230 Assignment Week Five September 25, 2011 Cagney Stigger [pic] Communication for Marginalized Population What would you say is the overall lesson from the simulation activity? I would say that the overall lesson from this simulation activity was to read and re-view the simulation and try and learn helpful tips on how to communicate with patients on several different levels and the simulation. I found that were many interesting simulations as well as many helpful tips that I will in mind for if I ever need to put them in use in the future. I’d improve the literacy between caregivers and patients with low health literacy, by trying to improve the patient education,
The pharmaceutical drug OxyContin is developed to be a very potent pain reliever used by patients with chronic illnesses, although, many users have developed extreme problems caused by the drug’s highly addictive nature. Purdue Pharma claims itself a pioneer researcher on a principal cause of human suffering: persistent pain. Purdue is dedicated to providing for the needs of patients with innovative prescription medicines. Partners Against America was founded in 1993 by Purdue Pharma to “raise awareness of the importance of pain management” (1). This organization, along with other alliances: (patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers) collaborate among each other to advance the standards of pain care through education and advocacy (Partners Against Pain website 1).
Harm reduction is a philosophy that was first developed by people organizing against the HIV/AIDS crisis and other issues among injection drug users. The philosophy has been further used for different types of harmful behaviors that individuals subject themselves to or are subjected to. Harm reduction calls for non-judgmental, non- coercive provision of services and resources to the individuals who are utilizing the services. It also provides survival techniques to assist the victim and victim’s children if they decide to reunite with the abuser or have a encounter with the abuser. Safety plans are also a strategy that is used.
This allows the medical staff to use the knowledge they obtained in school in order to help the patients in improving their life. This helps in advancing their lifestyle and promotes good health. There are various types of assessment tools that may be used, all depending on the patient’s current situation. One tool that is currently being used is the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). It is a measure of the degree to which situation’s in one’s life are appraised as stressful (Cohen, 1988).
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Best to Treat Childhood Trauma By John M. Grohol, PsyD Founder & Editor-in-Chief Kids get exposed to all sorts of traumatic events in their young lives and for most, they can escape from serious emotional harm. One way to do that is through treatment of the trauma. But like treatment for many mental health issues, the variety of treatments available can be a little overwhelming. Treatment experts will extol the virtues of their own preferred modality of treatment, regardless of research findings or what-not. “This is what I learned, so this is what you get.” Every now and again, researchers conduct large meta-analyses to try and answer the question, “Treatment-wise, what works for this concern?” A set of researchers
