Teenagers are reckless and we must do everything reasonable to prevent deaths. Raising the driving age will cut the number of accidents on the roads. Teenage drivers are much more likely to have accidents than older drivers. In the USA there were over 30 000 deaths in crashes involving 15-17 year old drivers between 1995 and 2004 (Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association, RMIIA). Raising the driving age by a year or two will greatly reduce these accidents and deaths.
What if you witness a friend that has been drinking and/or doing drugs attempting to get behind the wheel of a car would you let him or her or would you do everything in your power to stop him or her? I know for me there is only one answer to that question and that is I would do everything in my power to get the keys from him or her. As a friend I want to keep my friend in my life and that means keeping that person safe by making sure they make it home accident free and out of jail. Alcohol decreases a person’s ability to drive a motor vehicle safely. The more you drink, the greater the effect.
For most of the people and organizations that support lowering the drinking age, their case is a person can fight and die for their country, serve jury duty , vote for President, but cannot have a beer or two while doing so. There are a smorgasbord of pros and cons to each side of the story. Cons “Alcohol consumption is the third leading actual cause of death in the United States, a major contributing factor to unintentional injuries, the leading cause of death for youths and young adults, and accounts for an estimated 75,000 or more total deaths in the United States annually.” (Wechsler & Nelson, 2010). Alcohol abuse is everywhere; mostly so in young adult’s
Almost every 90 seconds, a person is injured due to a drunk driver. People under the age of the legal drinking age of 21 are twice as likely to be involved in a fatal crash as the people over the legal drinking age. As these teens are dying from these crashes, teens and mothers of teens are getting involved in trying to prevent these crashes. Teens Against Drunk Driving and Mothers Against Drunk Driving are just two of the many organizations that are making families more aware of this issue and are working to solve the problem of teens drinking and driving. According to WHO research, about fifty percent of road accidents are associated with the consumption of alcoholic drinks. Unfortunately, alcohol-related problems not only affect drinkers, but they also affect all the people around the drinker, especially the drinker’s family. Family members that drink alcohol excessively spend little time at home and do not spend as much time with their family as they used to. Alcohol is also strongly associated with intentional injuries caused by aggressive behavior, leading to violent crime in the family. On the other hand, many economic problems in the family are caused as well because of the addiction to alcohol from a member.
Houston is ranked the 6th highest city in the state of Texas for drunk driving deaths, and also ranked 47th in the whole United States of America. These numbers are way too big and too close to home for me to be okay with my father who drives a motor cycle to drive on the highway. Something has to be done before we lose any more of our dear loved ones.
Every single day someone dies here in America due to guns, whether it is by suicide, school shootings, or just even children playing around at home with an open gun at home. (Truth is we need laws and systems like this). It is a way we can reduce the number of killings by guns in our country that happen on an everyday basis. Although the individuals in the class may not have suicidal thoughts, there are many other people who do have to endure a daily struggle of debating whether or not to take their own life away. Whether we believe it or not, our youth is killing themselves and the leading way is by guns.
In 2007 analysis said that Detroit officials noted about 65 to 70 percent of homicides in the city were confined to a narcotics catalyst. Now days there are way too many shootings going on over the stupidest things. A lot of our young men in today’s society are getting their lives taken a young age. People are fearful much more than back then in our metro Detroit area because the violence and death rates continue to go up. Every day you hear of a young male getting shot/killed or a young woman getting abused then killed.
They would rather him be alive right now instead of going to his funeral tomorrow. Texting and Driving is one of the leading causes of death.1.8 million people are in accidents each year because of it and half of them are killed. With that being said, there are plenty of other distractions that cause many “Close Calls” or wrecks! Besides texting and driving, eating and drinking is another “wreck-causer”. People eat and drink all the time while they drive.
William E. Shelton III (Word Count 1,036) Senior Citizens Behind the Wheel If society as a whole does not do something quickly about all the unsafe senior citizens driving on public roads, the consequences will continue to soar. “Although older drivers often restrict their driving and have a low crash rate per person, they still have a higher rate of accidents per number of miles driven,” according to Christina Corcoran (16). Senior citizens and their poor driving abilities is a huge problem in today’s society; therefore, it is necessary to make all senior citizens retake the state driver’s examination after reaching age 65. Senior citizens are being allowed to drive all over the place, as they please, causing the roadways to become very hazardous indeed. Once individuals obtain their drivers license for access to drive on public roads, there is no further testing required to be completed.
