In my report I am going to explain why discipline is needed in the Public Services. I will also give a definition of what discipline is and what the consequences of lack of discipline are by justifying the roles of discipline in the Uniformed Services. I will also explain how it is used and why the Public Services need discipline along with rules and regulations to do their jobs efficiently. Discipline is a state of order and obedience existing within the uniformed services. The Public Services and Uniformed Services discipline demands reasoned obedience and correct performance of duty which maintains efficiency which has expected standards and following orders even in the absence of the commander or the higher ranked person for the rules and…show more content…
An example of this is the Baha Mousa case where Mr Mousa died in British custody over in Iraq in 2003, thirty six hours after his detention he was found to have ninety three separate injuries to his body. The soldiers that were in charge of the detainee abused their position and disobeyed the rules and regulation which led to the death of an Iraqi prisoner and they were taken to trial where the seven soldiers were charged with a mixture of manslaughter and murder. The soldiers that held Baha Mousa in custody had breached discipline in a serious way which resulted in a dark shadow on the reputation of the army and have let the public down. A lack of discipline within the Public Services and the military would lead to disorder and could potentially result in a break down in the chain of command. All the services rely on members abiding by the rules and regulations; if the services didn’t have discipline then its structure would be undermined. The consequences of this could be very serious for the British economy and be a threat to public
