Task 1 - Explain the need for and role of discipline in uniformed public services. Include the ‘day in the life of’ a Public servant. Highlight and explain the discipline aspects. (P1) Justify the need for and role of discipline in the uniformed public services. (M1) Task 2 – Evaluate the impact of discipline in the uniformed services. (D1) In its most general sense, discipline refers to systematic instruction given to a disciple. To discipline thus means to instruct a person to follow a particular code of conduct "order." Usually, the phrase 'to discipline' carries a negative connotation. This is because enforcement of order - that is, ensuring instructions are carried out - is oft "Discipline is the instant willingness and obedience to all orders, respect for authority, self reliance and teamwork. The ability to do the right thing even when no one is watching or suffer the consequences of guilt which produces pain in our bodies, through pain comes discipline. The role of discipline is to create a bond of trust between the inside and outside of the service; to enable people to work successfully in teams; help to maximise efficiency and save the public money; help people to work under stress without just cracking up; allow people to work with each other without quarrelling; save lives inside and outside the service; limit accidents; increase peoples jobs satisfaction; enable a public service to be good; ensure safety precautions are taken; enable a public service to show that it is good; and make sure things are done correctly. The need of discipline is to keep law and order and to ensure people know what they are doing, and can do a task efficiently in time. Discipline is a way of making people follow rules and regulations, it is not a punishment. It is also a way of ensuring that efficiency, uniformity and order is applicable to all personnel’s in the
