Keila Mosquea 3/3/15 AP World History Prep DBQ period 4 The Han and Roman attitudes towards technology were both praised greatly among themselves, but Han China valued technology more so than the Romans due to Han China’s constant concern about the empire while the Romans were indifferent. Han China’s attitudes toward technology displayed self-praise, which is reasonable due to the fact that the empire invented essential items like paper and acupuncture. Han China also felt that their technology should help the common people, as discussed in the letter a government official wrote about flood prevention, how people should “establish water conservation offices in each district” (Doc 1) to prevent the disaster. This displays a general concern for the people and/or property to aid the empire using technology. This concern is also expressed in the source written by Huan Guan, a government official where he tells about problems in society from lack of technology, such as iron plows.
China was completely contrary from Central Africa on economic, political, and cultural bases during the 1500-1800. From 1000-1500 China led the world in economic development and there after experiencing the trauma of rule by the Yuan Dynasty, China adopted policies that favoured Chinese political and cultural tradition. On the other hand, the kingdoms of central Africa had initiated commercial relations with Portuguese merchants and diplomatic relations with Portuguese monarchy. Portuguese traded for slaves and slave trade undetermined the authority of the King. The Kings were converts of Christianity just to establish closer relations with Portuguese whereas Chinese has great problems with the exclusivity of Christianity but the Jesuits were respectful of Chinese culture and won a few converts.
Why Europe? Anan Patel 12/16/13 The Europeans were the first people to explore and conquer the rest of the world. But, before they explored the world the Chinese had started this voyage project also, but they eventually receded from this because they were looking to focus more on domestic matters (DOC 2, 3, 4, and 5). The reason why Europe succeeded and the others didn’t because Europe already had advantages in society because of the plant and animal domestication, also they had enough competition between the different European countries to go out on voyages to look for more (DOC 1, 6, 7, 9) . On the other hand, the other countries weren’t able to succeed because they conquered by Europeans or their population died out from diseases or plagues (DOC 4, 5, 8).
It wasn’t said about Mao however it adapts to his ideas and aspirations. There are numerous hypotheses regarding the impact that Mao’s leadership has had over China. Mao’s legacy is that the system he established was idealistic. It did not align with the rest of Western culture after the Second World War, but with the population and vast resources that were readily available, “Mao founded Marxist study groups in Changsha.”2 This source from a school history textbook is highly trustworthy as there are many other sources backing up the truth behind it. China was left with a regime that did not respond in correlation with the rest of the world.
Throughout the 19th century, American relations with China were restricted to a small but profitable trade a. The British, in competition with France, Germany, and Russia, took advantage of the crumbling Manchu dynasty to force treaties on China, creating “treaty ports” and granting exclusive trading privileges in various parts of the country. b. American attitudes toward the Chinese people reflected this confusion of motives. 2. The annexation of Hawaii and Philippines in 1898 and 1899 convinced Secretary of State Hay that the US should have announced a China policy.
For discussing this topic, it is necessary to consider the economic and industrial effect that Chinese Immigrants had brought to the country around the time, weather the law actually solve the problems on job competition, the long-term effect this law had brought to the future Chinese Immigrants and the basic American value on human rights. After deeply analyzing those factors, it will show weather the Chinese Exclusion Act is a necessary law to protect the American workers or is it just another racial prejudice in American History. There was a lot of background and causes behind the pass of Chinese Exclusion Act, so it is necessary to understand those features first before discussing whether the U.S government should pass the Chinese Exclusion Act. Chinese Immigrants were the first Asian people to immigrate to United States in a large amount of numbers. The first wave of Chinese Immigration was spurred by the Gold Rush of 1849 in California.
The “drama” of the visit created hype as never seen before.14 The American people believed in the sentimentality of the trip.15 They really thought that this trip would change the course of the whole world forever, which needless to say, it was not. Television turned “what should have been a useful, diplomatic operation into a theatrical piece,” remarked a disgusted writer of the time. He believes that television was used to make the trip more than it was. He thinks that the trip to China was “propaganda-d” into the hearts and minds of the American people to show Nixon as the favorable candidate.16 Gallup polls indicate that the President’s approval rating before the announcement of his trip to China was 40.2%. But after the announcement it rose to 49.7%, an increase of almost ten percent!17 It is clear that the Nixon administration wished for the visit to China to affect the voting preferences of the American people and to make them see their President in a new light.
Daily Life in China on the Eve of the Mongol Invasion- Book Summary The book starts off with The City; it refers to the city of Hangchow, China’s former capital. The reason that the Chinese chose Hangchow was because it was a provincial town, and the city fit well with what they needed it for by its lay-out. It begins by telling us about the nomad invasions and how they captured cities upon cities, because there warfare skills were a lot better than the average Chinese man. It did not matter if the cities were walled, the Chinese did not stand a chance. They could not hold off the invasion anywhere else except for Hangchow.

Creating Mythology that can be Understood Paul Elder (Doc) HCS/105 August 28 2014 David Hudson Creating Mythology that can be Understood Could one go on about the zodiac and find that there symbols could be the writings of their own mythology being. Chinese horoscope has given civilization a reading of what ancient beings have decided was our story, and as the modern world continues to believe these stories based on handed down or read stories could be the answer to our existence. According to its origin of the Hyan Dynasty, each animal and character live in its own created habitat. (Travel China, 2004) Does this create the basis of who we are and how we find ourselves in our own habitat, can we say that the zodiac has given us mythical stories of present day or are these stories recirculating.
