What are the characteristics of effective managers? There are many character traits a manager should possess to be an effective manager. A manager should be an excellent listener. When a manager does not listen to his staff, he might miss out on some very key information. Managers should listen to their front-line staff for ideas and solutions to make situations and problems that arise, better. Managers should be able to delegate some of their responsibilities. There are a lot of managers who feel like they need to be involved in every single situation or any project that is going on. Managers should be able to trust certain staff, which is another characteristic, so they can be freed up to focus on more important tasks. Communication is also a very important characteristic of an effective manager. Managers should not keep all their info to themselves. So often, a manager forgets to communicate critical information to the staff. Problems can arise when the front-line staff is not well-informed about day to day operations. A good manager also has the ability to understand what his strengths and weaknesses are. When a manager understands this about himself, he is able to effectively delegate certain tasks to others which could result in a better finished product. It is imperative that good leaders have a tremendous amount of knowledge, skill, and experience in the area they are managing. This will gain respect from the staff who are working for them. A manager needs to have the ability to answer most questions brought to them by their staff. Also, a manager should have confidence and show that confidence to their staff. These traits that have just been mentioned well help a manager be more effective in their job. What traits should a manager use to foster enthusiasm in the workplace?
