INFORMATIVE PRESENTATION How to be a Successful Student Rosella Mossholder November 14, 2011 INTRODUCTION Hi, my name is Rosella Mossholder. College is one of the most important stepping-stones of our lives. It is essential that we do our absolute best while we are here, so we can be successful students, and by successful I mean a GPA of 3.5 and higher. By a show of hands who here thinks being successful in our classes is paramount? (Hopefully many of the students will raise their hands, and if they do …….I will say….) GREAT, this is going to be easy! (If they don’t then I will say………)(What if I told you that if you follow the five steps I am about to give you, I guarantee you will be successful?) (Assuming they all raise their hands this is how I will continue.) There are five things we can do to become a successful student. You may want to take notes….just kidding, I will have copies of these guidelines for you after the presentation. Transition- First of all…………. BODY I. Choose your classes wisely A. Know your personal schedule-make sure you know what your work schedule is, or what your children have going on, do you have church duties, basically know how many credit hours you can handle. B. Look up classes-find classes on Oncourse, are there prerequisites? Is it a lecture, online, half-and-half? Is it an eight week or 16 week class? C. Make an appointment with your advisor-this is one of the best things you can do, your advisor will usually know what the classes require and they can help you make out your schedule. Remember: it is a good idea to have some classes in mind when you see your advisor so you don’t go in without a clue. Transition-Number 2…….. II. Be prepared A.
