In the end of the mission and unto this day, Romeo suffers from post- traumatic stress disorder. When thousands of people were being slaughtered, the whole world only sat by and watched the massacre. During the time, a war in Yugoslavia was occurring. The world focused on that war and thought that the event in Rwanda was more of a civil war than genocide, resulting to the fact that they didn’t act. The world didn’t want to pay for the supplies needed and to take the risk of their troops’ life.
Page |1 Daniel Castracion Soc 100 tues-thurs Hotel Rwanda Between April and June 1994 a war between the Hutus and Tutsis occurred in the East African country of Rwanda. An estimated 800,000 Rwandans were killed in the span of 100 days. I will discuss the basic scenario of the movie, how social theories may have influence particular outcomes and how dehumanization of the Tutsi people may have led to the acceptance of the genocide. This horrific event was not merely an act of one denomination simply not liking the other. Colonial history, global economic integration and finally the assassination president Habyarimana was the perfect combination for the tragic genocide of the Tutsi people of Rwanda.
However, when Paul's bribes no longer work, he blackmails the General with threats of being tried as a war criminal. Soon after, the family and the hotel refugees are finally able to leave the besieged hotel in a UN
Paul Rusesabagina In 1994 in Rwanda, a million members of the Tutsi tribe were killed by members of the Hutu tribe in a massacre that took place while the world looked away due to the fact that Belgian occupants established the entire social separation of the Rwandan people. "Hotel Rwanda" is not the story of that massacre which was filmed by Terry George. It is the story of a hotel manager who saved the lives of 1,200 people by being, a substantially good hotel manager. He spends his days arranging favors for people in power and getting supplies to satisfy his prominent guests, he is the type of man who knows how things work in the real world, he uses his skills of bribery, flattery, apology and deception to save these lives that have come into his care as you could have seen in the film. Paul is a very wise man; he is a man who knows what is going on in the real world, he does courageous things throughout the film and wore different hats during the film.
“Hotel Rwanda”, The Story of a Hero. 19 yeas ago in Rwanda, Hutu extremists killed almost a million of the Tutsi tribe with guns and machetes, while the world stood by and refused to help. "Hotel Rwanda" is not the story of that massacre. It is the story of a hotel manager who saves the lives of 1,268 people by being very brave person. The film "Hotel Rwanda" is based on a real event that occurred during the Rwandan civil war.
Now before we get into comparing and contrasting, lets become better informed on what happened during the Rwanda Genocide. On April 6, 1994, a plane carrying President Habyarimana was shot down(Genocide in Rwanda par. 2). Weeks after this evet, 800,000 Tutsi men, women, and children were murdered by the Hutu. The were killed in their homes, in the streets, and as familes.
The civil war between the ethnic groups Hutu and Tutsi in Rwanda, like many civil wars in Africa, had colonial roots. However, the civil war took a extreme turn for the worst on a tragic day in April where thousands of Tutsis lost their lives in a relentless genocide that lasted a hundred days carried out by the Hutus. In this essay, I will explain the cause of the civil war, the 1994 genocide and the aftermath of the genocide. According to a articley called “Rwanda: How the Genocide Happeneded” in the BBC NEWS site, the conflict between the Hutus and Tutsi originated with the arrival of the Belgian colonist. Belgian colonial leaders and the Catholic Church deepened the racial divide between the majority Hutu populated country of Rwanda, by awarding Tutsi ethnic group better job and education opportunities.
The deep rooted hatred between Hutus and Tutsis began with status within a monarchy. Tutsis generally were “kings” or “nobles”, while Hutus took on the surf like roll, as they were the majority. When Belgium gained control of Rwanda in 1919 after the Treaty of Versailles, they furthered the tension between the classes by issuing racial identification cards, giving preference to Tutsis in positions of education, politics, and business. From April 6, 1994 through mid July 1994 roughly one million civilians were massacred as a result of the Rwandan civil war between the Hutus and the Tutsis. Hutu extremists slaughtered Tutsis and any Hutus that stood in the way.
Hotel Rwanda Analysis In the movie Hotel Rwanda the writer Sujit R. Varma gives you a depiction and reenactment of events that took place about 15 years ago in the city of Rwanda. These events may be one of the harshest of genocides in history. In only about 3 months millions of people were brutally murdered along with children and babies, which is an incredibly large amount of people in that short time span. Even though they were in the era where there were heavy mass media, around the clock news and constant updates, the brutal events were basically unnoticed by the rest of the world. In these events the writer focuses on a hotel manager by the name of Paul Rusesabagina that manages to save his family and a lot of others from the event of the civil war between the Tutsi and Hutu people.
The story real life story that the movie told was pretty much the exact same story that the movie actually tells. I loved this movie! This movie shows a real life story to the people that don’t watch the news and/or also to people who weren’t even alive at the time that this event happened. Hotel Rwanda also shows people that have everything or at least have healthy water and food and a house that not everybody lives life the same way. This movie has really opened my eyes to the world and showed me that I have it good, no matter what happens in my life because the people in Africa and other poor countries don’t have it very good.
