You love a person because he or she has lovable traits, but you accept everybody just because they’re alive and human.” The feeling of being accepted is human nature, and the ironic part is that some have no clue as to why they want to fit in. My observation is that high school is one of the main places where people think that social acceptance is the key to life; they feel as though being “popular” is crucial to survival. Well its not true. If you spend all your time trying to find out how to be socially accepted, that’s time wasted when you could use that time to excel in life and in making a name for yourself. To be truly enlightened with yourself you must learn to break away from the chains of conformity, only then will you get to move on with your life and be free; and enlightenment is key.
There are a lot of people who likes to keep things private while others like to be open with themselves. It doesn't meant that both of them aren't good but there are cons and pros to keeping things private. Most of the kids would probably be private to their parents because they don't want them to see or know what they are up to, which isn't so great for parents, they should know what their children are doing because they can be doing something they shouldn't do. Another example would relate to friendship or in business. As you get older, things happen a lot.
He qualifies this act as “insensitive and unwise” because although the ones who displayed the flags are satisfied with what they did, many others will be offended (66). I totally agree with him on this because conflicts such as this one happen frequently among students and there are many people that get hurt or offended by what others call their freedom of speech. Next, Bok argues that “to disapprove of a particular form of communication, however, is not enough to justify prohibiting it”(66). This is a valid argument since no one has the right to prohibit something because they
The concept of work and reward is a good way of motivating high schoolers. Ever since grade school, when teachers would reward students with candy for hard work, we have been taught that hard work brings an enjoyable reward. High school students would work hard if they had the right kind of reward. Another way to motivate a high school student is through threats, such as threats to take away their cell phone or not let them go somewhere or something along those lines. Although threatening teenagers may not be the best or morally right way to motivate, it actually works very well.
It can be very hard to get them involved in the community, but the results can change their lives forever. There are people who disagree with this and say that teens are bad influences to smaller kids and that having them around will cause corruption. This can be true, but is not true of every teen. Dealing with the opposition to my particular topic makes me feel a lot more intrigued about really going out into the world and doing something about it. All teens should have a chance to be involved with others in a positive way, and without community groups going out and searching for them, its not going to happen.
Cliques are small exclusive friends that share common traits or interests, (i.e. music, dress, and sports.) There are usually a number of different cliques among teens. The popular groups, also known as jocks, preps, and cheerleaders are often viewed as the most attractive group by Hollywood standards, and seen as mainstream airheads by other groups. The jocks tend to be those star athletes that walk around school with their cocky attitudes and thinking that their grades do not matter, because they will be going to college on an athletic scholarship anyway.
Of course, being obnoxious is not the idea. The key is to become a master of communication with teachers and fellow students, all of whom are a part of the school community. Most importantly, those who are outside of the community. I do not want to make Abraham Clark High School sound as if it produces the perfect students, because it doesn't. But the school deserves a lot of credit for its efforts.
When high school students see other people with an item they believe will make them look better, or perform better in a sport, those students automatically want that item. This is why the sight of iPhones, Sperry’s, Power Balance Bracelets, Toms, etc. are commonplace in a high school atmosphere; thus, creating a lack of individuality within society. The majority of people believe that attempting to think, act, and look like others is ideal for a society. However, it can force more people apart in discrepancies.
Although, what students wear often becomes the soul identity and determine what groups they will or will not be accepted to. As a result many teens and children become antisocial, branded, the bud of everyone jokes. This can lead to many symptoms like depression, inability to concentrate on schoolwork, or the feeling of inferiority. The implementing of school uniform puts everybody as a whole on an equal level because no attire is more stylish or extravagant than another. School Uniforms would save time for both the parents and student who would have to wear it.
A lot of people don’t even try something because they have fear made –up in our mind that we may probably fail. His message is that people shouldn’t be afraid of trying and doing something. The second “Ifs” is that life is worthwhile if we learn. Learning is so important nowadays as we’ve seen. He mentioned PE and OPE which stand for “personal experience” and “other people experience”.
