Client Paper James Williamson BSHS/305 11/18/14 Joanne Schrock Client Paper Human Services is a generic term covering many jobs in fields that provide assistance to people in need (degree directory 2003-2014). Human services can employment can range from government workers to private sectors. Human Services encompasses careers supporting people in vulnerable situations like abuse, addiction, mental or physical illness, advancing age, or poverty (degree directory 2003-2014). The goal of Human Services is to provide professional services to those in need. The helping process can be in either formal or informal setting, for example, offices, institute, agencies, street corners, or any other settings where Human Services can provide services to clients. During the helping process Human Service professionals are to set aside any personal feelings so that they can focus on the needs of the client. Human Services professional will need to refrain from giving any advice or expressing any opinions. Some skills a helper can use to make sure they are giving the best help are to: express yourself well enough the client understands what you are saying. Ask yourself can I be perceived as trustworthy, dependable, and constant? Can I separate my needs from the clients? Can I express attitudes of warmth, caring, liking, interest, and respect for the client? Am I able to see the world as the client does? Can I accept the client as he or she is? Can I help the client see his or her strengths (introduction of human services 2014)? In the preparation stage the helper will decide on an appropriate setting, asking themselves is there any barriers that will cause the client to feel uncomfortable? Does the physical sitting insure the client confidentiality? Does the helper have all of the paper work in order and all supplies needed to take notes, etc? Did the helper review all the information about the client that was accessible? Does the helper have a plan on how to approach the client?
