If so how? The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is the administrative agency that controls the regulation surrounding all issues concerned with the health and welfare of the citizens of the State of Illinois. I chose to review the requirements of the training for food handlers, their certification, and the many rules regarding overall safety of food products that are served in Illinois by the many thousands of food handlers across this state. The proposed regulation changes interest me for various reasons. The U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that one in six Americans suffer from foodborne illness each year, resulting in 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths (Natalie Morris, The State Journal-Register, May 18, 2014).

Abstract Central lines also known as central venous catheters are an integrated role in today’s health care. They provide the means of delivering the necessary lifesaving fluids, nutrition, blood products, medications, and means for hemodialysis access. But for this convenience comes great risks of bloodstream infections that are caused by the colonization of microorganisms from the external surface on and around the devices providing a pathway while inserted or in use. These types’ central line or catheter related associated bloodstream infections are often preventable. Yet thousands of people die each year or escalates billions of debt to the health care system in the U.S. annually to fight them.

Nursing-sensitive indicators are the patient outcomes that have been clinically researched and proven to be directly linked to nursing care. Nursing-sensitive indicators are based upon the organization of care, nursing care process and results of patient focused outcomes. The organization or structure of nursing care is reflected by the quantity and quality of nursing staff. The structure indicators are related to nursing staff characteristics such as the skill mix, experience, certification and education of the nurses.
