Should citizens be allowed to carry? Are the weapons themselves truly dangerous or is it the person wielding it? These questions and a slew of others have been pondered by both sides of this ongoing controversial debate but to no avail neither side has mutually agreed on answer to those questions or solutions to the issue itself. With steady increases in horrific mass murders such as the most recent Sandy Hook and the Denver Movie Theater shootings gun control has once again been thrown into public eye and with them becoming more frequent a solution to prevent such tragedies is demanded by the American people. But how can we accomplish such a feat?
Gun Violence Solutions for America The recent tragedy of Sandy Hook Elementary school once again brought to the forefront of public debate the role of firearms in our culture. The American culture of gun ownership is one of the most distinguishing features of this nation as the United States has almost as many firearms as people. Enshrined into our national fabric with the 2nd Amendment, the debate on guns and their restrictions is every bit as emotionally charged and hotly debated as immigration or abortion. While law-abiding citizens should continue to be allowed to own guns, a re-evaluation who is allowed to purchase them combined common-sense restrictions would go a long ways to preventing tragedies. Firearm ownership is a long American tradition, dating back to before the Revolutionary War when the forefathers of our nation needed guns on a daily basis for hunting or personal protection.
Provide a story where you can. My topic is on the very sentisitive subject of gun control in America. Ever since the colonial days guns in America have been a subject of debate. With many controversial events involving the use of a firearm it is
Daisy Ortiz October 5, 2011 Period 5 GUN CONTROL: is it a Federal or State policy issue Congress continues to debate the efficacy and constitutionality of federal regulation of firearms and ammunition. Various federal laws have been enacted since 1934. Gun control speakers argue that they control access by criminals, juveniles, and other "high-risk" individuals. They contend that only federal measures can successfully reduce the availability of guns. Some seek broad policy changes such as near-prohibition of non-police handgun ownership or the registration of all firearm owners or firearms.
Gun Control and Advertisements Gun control is and always will be a very important and touchy subject in this country. Historically the conservative politicians have supported the 2nd amendment and the more liberal politicians have supported gun control. There has to be some control over what kinds of weapons a person can own, the dispute is over how strict or how relaxed those stipulations should be. In this article in CNN.com about New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, it explains what he and a few other mayors in the U.S. are trying to do to make those gun laws stricter. But right in the middle of the article is an ad for www.CloseCombatTraining.com, which is a website for people to learn how to do a certain martial arts technique.
Gun Control Policy Gun control and firearm issues have always been at the top of the most debated topics in American culture and politics. Throughout history, gun violence and cases of mass public shootings have always focused Americans eyes on gun control. The main focal point and the cause of the continuing debate on gun control stems from the ratification of the Second Amendment of the Constitution, which states: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The basis of this Amendment was for national security and the efficiency of the people of the United States to gather together and form a defensive army against foreign militants.
Guns have been around for a long time throughout history guns have played a major role. Our founding fathers used guns to defend and take over America. They have placed amendments in the constitution to ensure that we will always have guns. The liberals have been calling on taking away guns and making very strict gun control laws. Gun control doesn't work look at Chicago for instance they have some of the highest crime rates but yet they have some of the strictest gun laws.
In the gun control argument, I stand with the side that wants more gun control and less permission to carry a gun. There are many rules that I am against that are for guns, like to buy a gun you only get a background check and that’s it, I think you should get checked every year, and not only should they do a background check, they should also do a psychological test, and you should have to go to a course on guns and gun use every time you want to renew the license. There have been a lot of accidents around the country because of this issue of gun control, people are acquiring guns way too easily and are not using them properly, if you are buying a gun then like it should either be for hunting animals or for self-defense. They shouldn’t use them just because they don’t like the person or because of revenge or other stupid motives like those.
This can be seen through the laws that followed after the St. Valentine’s Day massacre, John F. Kennedy assassination and the killing of Martin Luther King Junior which were meant for the government to control the type of guns that citizens could carry and use. I would highly recommend that leaders and citizens to take part in the gun control measures and laws in order to improve their safety and that of their family from crime. I decided as I said in the beginning to pick this topic because a majority of individuals have been affected by gun violence and it has become a menace to society. I will end with “Guns do not kill people. People kill people” at the end of the day gun lobbyists, owners a like and the general public should advocate for laws that encourage buyers and owners to demonstrate that they can possess a firearm lawfully and responsibly.
Gun control has been a controversial issue in America for many decades, especially the debate concerning the most effective ways to reduce gun violence. We hear stories everyday of homicides, suicides, firearm accidents, and mass shootings resulting in more than 100,000 people being injured or killed per year. In the political arena, there are opposing views on the laws needed to reduce this gun violence epidemic. There is too much political arguing that causes Congressional gridlock, when what is important is to stop fighting each other and start fighting for the common good of the people. Many concerned citizens just want the political arguing to stop and to work together, not for political gain, but for the crucial purpose of saving lives.
